Obituary of Robert Peasley McReavy
Guilford - Robert Peasley McReavy passed away quietly on December 9, 2020. Bob was born July 20, 1925, in Jonesport, Maine.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Harriet [Peasley] and his infant brother Harry; and his mother and father-in-law, Catherine [Ryan] and George Young.
Bob was lifelong learner having graduated Jonesport High School [1942],Coburn Classical Institute [1943], Washington State Normal School, Machias [1952], and the University of Maine in Orono with a B.S. [1952], M.S. [1956], and Certificate of Advance Study in Education Administration [1967]. He attended the University of Minnesota where he received an advanced studies credential in Health Services Administration [1981].
Bob led a life of service beginning with WWII where he served with Company C 42ndArmored Infantry Battalion as a scout attached to a tank company. His service took him to France, Germany, and Austria. After the end of the campaign in Europe he was assigned to the 20th Armored Division in California and was part of the reformation of the 3rd Armored Division at Fort Hood.
He taught at Boothbay Harbor, Greenville High School and Loring Air Force base. He was an assistant coach for football, baseball, and coach for girls basketball at Greenville High School. Bob served as Principal in Ashland, Maine, and Superintendent in Guilford, Maine.
Bob left education to become the first hospital administrator of HAD #4, Mayo Regional Hospital [1974-1993]. He was a member of the Maine Hospital Association, the American College of Hospital Administrators and President of the Piscataquis Regional YMCA [1986-1988].His memberships included the Jonesport Masonic Lodge, Anah Shrine, Scottish Rite Valley of Bangor and Portland, Rotary Club, and Kiwanis.
Bob tended his family blueberry land until 2007, and enjoyed Maine Black Bear sports throughout his life.
Bob is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary; daughters, Kathy, and Debi and husband, Michael Freeman; sister-in-law, Darlene Bernier and husband, Henry; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and his cousin, Richard Peasley.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made payable to Shrine Hospital for Children and sent to Anah Shriners, 1404 Broadway, Bangor, Maine, 04401.
