I just heard of Carl's passing and I'm so very sorry. There weren't many that my dad liked or called his friend, but Carl was one of them. My dad, Bob O'Brien, thought the world of him and loved that Carl called him "Antiqua" (for all the old stuff he collected). My dad once told Carl how much he loved the slate driveways he did. The next day, Carl dumped the shale for my dad's driveway, refusing to take any money from him. I'm sure there were many more things that Carl did for my dad that I'll never know. The fact that my dad liked him is all I need to know. I hope they're both staying out of trouble in Heaven together!
So very sorry for your loss.

While we were looking for a Christmas tree many years ago we met up with Carl. He climbed a tree, cut off the top, and we had a special beautiful tree that year that the children never forgot.

My thoughts go out to you Great Uncle Carl. I’m one of Carl’s great niece’s. My family and I would make many trips from Michigan out to Maine in my younger years to visit the Vainio’s and we always had the most wonderful times. You will be missed.
Love, Stefany Kulczycki

Our thoughts and prayers are with you. I just had to write a little something about Carl. We own the store in Detroit and many years ago Carl would come in with a jar of hot peppers, put it on the counter and say make me a loaded pizza and put this whole jar on there and of course we would. Have thought of him often over the years, actually I was just thinking of him recently. We have owned our store over 32 years and he was certainly one of our good memories. Again our condolences, Jim and Penny Basford

So very sorry to hear of Carls passing. I have very fond memories of all the Vainio family. There were so many "kids" and everyone was so busy all the time. I remember a couple times while spending the night with Jolene, Carl always looked in on us when he went up to bed. I thought that was such a nice big brother type thing. I didn't have a big brother. Very fond memories of this family, and as stated Carl was a legend in his own time.. My condolences to the family.

My Uncle Carl was not only fun but he was funny! His humor was undeniable and one in which we’ll be talking about for years to come. He had beautiful flowers that he always cut to bring to over or tell us to get any vegetables we want from the farm. He was a great farmer and his children have carried on that talent. We were blessed by his life and will always remember him and what he taught us. My condolences and love go out to his children and his siblings. “May the grace and favor of our Lord Jesus, the Anointed One, continually rest upon you all.”

In this happy and sad time of year. I remember a friend, follow dirt lover and brother of this most KIND man who was calm when and whatever situation I put him in. He loved keeping those fields up. The husbandman of the family with a unique taste for nature. I have many stories and I’m sure the siblings do too.
God Bless His Family.

I was very sorry to hear about Carl’s passing, I’ve know him pretty much all my life , I have to say I guess the best way to discribe Carl would be to say he was a character and yes even somewhat of a Lenged in his own time. Rest In Peace
