My prayers have been with your family Mr.Emerson. I simply adored Mrs. Emerson. She was my Softball Coach at Higgins Classical Institute. She taught me many valuable lessons through sportsmanship. Quiet moments of shared conversations during school helped me through some difficult situations. After I became a teacher myself, her advice has always been a cherished place in my memory.
Your forever student,
Mrs. Naomi Weymouth Boyle

Doreen Emerson was good soul and an impassioned teacher and advocate about her students. She supported and facilitated their personal growth and development through her outstanding Peer Mediation program at Foxcroft Academy. Doreen, along with George Mueller, Vernita Leins and myself, launched the Life Jackets program, and as Doreen used to say, "for kids at risk and promise." She believed in kids! Her contributions to the peer helping and leadership aspects of Life Jackets were enormous and always so helpful. Doreen Emerson helped support and build many human Life Jackets over the span of her life. I am sorry that she is gone from us. My condolences to Derwin and Doreen Emerson's family.

Doreen was my hero. She believed in me and wouldn't give up on me. She was the teacher I aspire to be. If I'm half the teacher she was, I'll reach my hardest to reach students. I am thankful I had her as a role model. I wouldn't be where I am today without her guidance and acceptance.

My heart is saddened at the loss of Doreen. We were good friends in high school and shared many wonderful memories during that time. I enjoyed touching base with her in the community and her store and she always had a laugh to share. If I remember correctly, she and Derwin were voted "most likely to succeed" in our class and surely that came to pass. I know for a fact Doreen touched the lives of many in a huge circle of people...mine, my daughter, Jeannine, and her daughter, Janell. I so appreciated her love of family, friends, and the simple life of nature. Doreen, I will miss seeing you in the community and chatting. You have made a profound difference in so many lives. I loved you as a friend at HCI and I love you as a friend today.

I am so very shocked to hear of her passing. I first met Doreen, when she donated a fish tank to the Glenburn Library and volunteered to stock and care for it. The tank became a center piece of the library, loved by students, who stopped by to watch every day. It added so much to the aura of our space. There was a certain magic about it. The tank was replaced with larger and larger ones, as our remaining goldfish, Gilda, grew and grew. When we lost her, she was at least 2 feet long and was loved by hundreds. She never would have been there, but for Doreen's generosity. Her care for the tank gave us time to talk with her and learn of her loves, interests, and projects.
When I left Glenburn, I lost touch with Doreen, only in the last year, to reconnect with her at my new library, Bangor Public. Her love of life, learning, books, and people shone in her face, her smile, her presence.
The world lost a lovely lady. I am so very sad.

High school can be a challenging time, even for the most well adjusted students. Mrs. Emerson made those difficult years a little less difficult, less challenging, and four of the best years of many students lives, myself included. Her door was always open, everyone was accepted and welcome, and you couldn’t walk away not loving her after spending time getting to know her. My heart aches to hear of her passing and goes out to her family and loved ones. Thank you, Mrs. Emerson, for giving of yourself and just for being you.
