Obituary of Cheryl A. (Ryder) Muzzy

Greenville – Cheryl A. (Ryder) Muzzy, 68, peacefully passed away on December 25, 2024, surrounded by loved ones, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born October 3, 1956, in Greenville, the daughter of Charles I. and Mary K. (Mason) Ryder. Cheryl lived her entire life in Greenville. She graduated from Greenville High School in 1974 where she was a standout athlete, especially in basketball. After earning a business degree from Thomas College, she returned to Greenville and married her high school sweetheart, Mark, on June 19, 1976. Together they welcomed two children, Maren and Tyler. In 1985, they opened the Burger Barn on Indian Hill, while Cheryl also worked for her father and brother at Greenville Insurance Agency (later the Varney Agency) for 38 years until retiring in October 2021. Cheryl had many passions in life, but her children and grandchildren were by far her greatest pride. She rarely missed a chance to support them in their school and athletic events. She cherished spending time at Wilson Pond with her family, caring for her beautiful gardens and cooking and baking for Mark. Cheryl also had a group of special friends who made her life a wonderful adventure! She was in her glory when surrounded by this close-knit circle, and she loved them dearly. Special memories were made on their trips to the Outer Banks, boat rides on Moosehead Lake and Wilson Pond, and Ranger rides on the Muzzy farm. A heartfelt thank you goes to Judy Folsom, Jan Douglass, Julie Lavigne, Ruth Fenn, Kim Godson, and Roxanne Arey for your unwavering friendship and support. Cheryl is survived by her loving husband, Mark; children, Maren Mason and her husband, Chuck, and Tyler Muzzy and his wife, Jessie; grandchildren, Liam and Nola Mason, and Mya and Violet Muzzy; brothers, Charles Ryder and his wife, Vikki, and Peter Ryder and his wife, Bobbi-Jean; sister and best friend, Judy Folsom; special niece Rebecca Lee; brothers-in-law, Austin Pierson, Matt Muzzy and Luke Muzzy and his wife, Laurie; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Randy Pierson, and brother-in-law, Max Folsom. The family would like to extend thanks to the many family members and friends who visited and provided food and baked goods over the past few months. Your kindness will always be remembered.
