John Lawson Jr.

Obituary of John C.M. Lawson Jr.

Dexter – John Currie Millar Lawson Jr., 85, passed away November 23, 2024.He was born December 29, 1938, in Wellesley, Massachusetts, the son of John C.M. Lawson and Alice E. (Howe) Lawson. John grew up in Wellesley, Massachusetts, and attended Nasson College, receiving a degree in business. He spent many summers in Alton Bay, New Hampshire, at his summer home on Lake Winnipesaukee, with his family. While at Nasson, he met Sally Fortier who became his wife. They moved to Natick, Massachusetts, and as a team they ran the family trucking business, Needam-Wellesley Dispatch, for about 13 years. During the 70’s, John and Sally decided to move to Dexter, Maine, with their 3 children and build a home on Lake Wassookeag. John worked for United Parcel Service in Bangor and Portland, Maine for many years before he retired. He loved his work and especially all the wonderful people he met there, many of whom he remained close to until his passing. He especially loved his friend Steve Morse who called him daily after Sally passed. John loved the outdoors. He shared special memories with his grandchildren boating, fishing and picking blueberries. He loved spending time with Sally at their camp in Northeast Carry and later at their camp in Rockwood, watching a boat go by or the sunset over Mt Kineo. He also liked to travel and adventure with Sally as they explored Alaska, Europe, California and Florida. Tractors, double tractor-trailers, lawnmowers…you name it, he loved to drive it! It was the “drive to the destination” that John loved. He bravely taught all his grandchildren how to drive (sorry about the mailbox and telephone pole scare). He also loved gardening and working in the yard. He spent time teaching grandchildren how to compost and weed. John spent countless hours tending to his lawn –we will always think of him when we smell the scent of freshly mowed grass. He took great care of his home and yard and took pride in being a “hard worker.” He was a generous man and gave all he had to his wife, children and grandchildren. John is survived by his three children, Stephen (Heidi) Lawson, Laurie (Bill) Inserra, and Cynthia Lawson; five grandchildren, Wendy (Lee) Lorigan, Kara Lawson (Jamie Kane), Billy Inserra, Mandy Inserra, and Danny Inserra; two great-grandchildren, Lee “LJ” Lorigan Jr. and Jack Lorigan; sister-in-law, Sandra Padham and her son and daughter, Chris Padham, and Jamie (Chip) Reier and their children. He was predeceased by his wife, Sally, and his parents. He is also survived by his sister, Joan Janse and his nieces, Cheryl, Linda and Allison. Somewhere in heaven there is a lawn that needs mowing. I hope mom will greet you with some shrimp scampi (without tails) as you arrive! It’s never goodbye, but only until we meet again! “Who lived here? He must have been a gardener that cared a lot Who weeded out the tears and grew a good crop… …A gardener like that one No one can replace” (Hey Hey Johnny - Elton John) A private get together will be held this summer by the lake for family and friends, date TBD. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home. Messages of condolence and memories may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com.
