Dover-Foxcroft - Elaine Roma (Wharff) Law, 95, passed away peacefully October 27, 2024, at Hibbard Nursing and Skilled Rehabilitation Center in Dover-Foxcroft. She was born October 2, 1929, in Shirley, the daughter of Cecil and Flora (Davis) Wharff. Elaine graduated from Guilford High School in 1948 and married Stephen Jay Law of Dover-Foxcroft in 1950. Her first job was at Crockett's Bakery and she rode there on her Whizzer from Guilford Center. She and her husband had a dairy farm on Milo Road for many years before he joined the US Forest Service. The family moved several times during his service in the Forest Service, to New Hampshire, Vermont, northern California, Virginia, and Alaska, before returning to Dover-Foxcroft. Elaine became a master at packing and unpacking boxes. During this time, she also worked as a cashier at various drug stores and Five and Dime stores. She was an accomplished knitter, and created matching ski sweaters for her family. She also mastered other crafts, particularly with the Extension Service during her time in Virginia. She also was in a 10-pin bowling league there. Elaine and her daughter were charter members of Colonial Avenue Baptist Church in Roanoke, VA, and she taught youth Sunday School. With her lifelong Maine accent, her daughter often was called upon to translate for her southern friends. When Elaine and her husband returned to Dover-Foxcroft, she resumed her membership at her original church home, Guilford Center Baptist. Elaine is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Law of Lewiston; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her beloved husband, Stephen; and her three brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald and Marilyn Wharff, Kenneth and Marion Wharff, and Wendell and Deborah Wharff. A time of visitation will be held at 1PM Friday, November 1, 2024, until time of funeral service at 2PM at the Guilford Center Baptist Church, with Pastor Ed Leskey officiating. Burial will be in the Lee Cemetery, Dover-Foxcroft. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Elaine's name to the Guilford Center Baptist Church, P.O. Box 25, Guilford, ME 04443.
