Obituary of Jack M. Guerrera

WATERBURY/ NEWINGTON, CT- Jack M. Guerrera, 71, passed away July 20, 2024 at the Hospital of Central Connecticut- New Britain Campus with his daughters by his side. Jack was born December 20, 1952, in Waterbury, CT, the son of Saverio and Genevieve (Rinaldi) Guerrera. He was a graduate of Crosby High School and began his career at the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union #22 (Local 777) as an apprentice in 1970. He was promoted to foreman in 1975 and served in that role for 10 years. During this time, Jack earned his bachelor’s degree from Western Connecticut State University, graduating in 1978. Jack began his esteemed career with the State of Connecticut Department of Labor in 1985. He worked as an Apprenticeship Field Representative, then Field Supervisor until he was promoted to Apprenticeship Program Manager in 1989. In his 25 year tenure as Program Manager he served on a number of committees: National Apprenticeship Committee, Eastern Seaboard Apprenticeship Committee (ESAC), and Central State of Connecticut Institute of Business and Technology Advisory Committee, to name only a few. After Jack’s retirement in 2011, he was presented with the Hall of Fame Award for Outstanding Contributions and Dedicated Service to the ESAC. Jack was a family man, avid gardener, wine maker, cook and reveled in sharing that he wrote and produced two original plays while in college. Although he enjoyed vacationing in St. Martin and spending time in Maine, Waterbury was always home until 2023 when he relocated to Newington with his daughter, Jill. He was predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Pamela (Bennett) Guerrera, and his parents. Jack leaves behind, to cherish his memory, his two beloved daughters, Jill Guerrera and her partner Luis Rodriguez, of Newington, CT, and Kristen (Guerrera) Alves and her husband Steven, of South Meriden, CT; his only sister, Philomena (Wayne) Tarnowicz of Waterbury, CT; his sister-in-law Judy (Mike) Doore of Howland, ME; his niece, Michelle (Rene) Roy of Howland, ME; his nephew, David (Christina) Doore of Enfield, ME; and his grand-nieces and nephews, Morgan (Brian) McLaughlin, Mikayla & Nathan Roy and Zachary & Isaac Doore. The family wishes a special thanks to Nana Bochorishvili for her years of care. A burial and celebration of Jack's life will take place in the Abbot Village Cemetery, Abbot, ME, on September 20th, 2024 at 3:00pm. Local arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home.
