Joan A. Shapleigh Obituary

Dover-Foxcroft - Joan Alice Shapleigh, 86, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2024. It should come as no surprise to anyone that knew her, she went when and how she wanted to.

From her years as a Social Worker with Community Health and Counseling Services, her service with the Peace Corp in Lesotho, her providing safe haven to those needing it for Womancare (Partners for Peace), her membership in the Grange and the Unitarian

Universalist Church – she touched many lives. Then, in retirement she starting riding horses at Infinity Farm, and achieved her goal of completing not one, but three Century Rides in Dressage. Many will remember her walking her dog Robbie around town - she was something of a fixture.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandy Perkins (David); her son, Steven Shapleigh (Melissa); her sisters, Pat Bryson and Jackie Foster; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held 11:30AM Sunday, June 30, 2024, at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Sangerville, Maine, with a service followed by a luncheon. She would want you all to bring your stories and memories. Condolences, memories and photos can be shared with the family on the obituary page of the Lary Funeral Home website: www.laryfuneralhome.com
