Here are some photos of cousin Joan and her environs when my friends and I visited her in the Summer of 2006. She loved horses (and her little dog) and was lucky to have riding stables right next door. She also loved walking the woods, and we visited Mt. Katahdin one day. She was very proud of the beautiful stained glass windows in the Unitarian Church where she was active.
Her home at that time was in Dover-Foxcroft. She had the cutest house--a little antique white with a gazebo and a wonderful back deck overlooking a gorgeous pond. That's us back then on her porch, and my friends joining her in front of a little local establishment. It was a wonderful visit. Good memories. ~Marne Glaser

It's been so long since my two friends and I visited cousin Joan in her pretty white antique house by the pond. What a lovely spot, and she was such a gracious host. We enjoyed meeting her horse(s) and riding with her around the community in the car. She let us use her kayaks on the big water, and I, new to the vehicle, recall falling in (laughingly). She told us then she was planning to move, and we were sad that she was leaving her lovely home, but I lost track of where it was.
I just sent her an email last night, but it was returned. I wanted to tell her and her family that my brother Bill Glaser just died this month down in Florida at the age of 93, and that's when I discovered that she, too, had passed away. I'm very sorry to hear that.
What a wonderful, adventurous life she lived. Inspired me! I love that she was so active and competent. I'm sure she left a big hole in the lives of people who knew her and were close to her.
While I was much younger than her and her sisters, and they were already dispersed and raising their families, I have many memories of visiting her parents, Aunt Alice and Uncle Jack, in Old Greenwich. They kept picture portraits of each of their grown- up girls proudly displayed on the antique cabinets and shelves of their home. I remember picking those wonderful grapes they had from the arbor outside in the dark with a flashlight, and being entertained by the humor and spriteliness of their dad.
I send my sympathy to Jackie and Pat and to Joan's family. I would be delighted to be in touch, if desired. My email is mmglaser@gmail.com . And here is my brother Bill's obit: https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/eastbayri/name/william-glaser-obituary?id=56846852 I have some nice pictures of Joan, which, if I can locate them soon, I will post. She was a lovely person.

I was Joan's closest neighbor when we both served in the Peace Corps in Lesotho. We spent time together at least once a week. She was in her 50s, me in my 20s, and we became fast friends. She kept me grounded, helped me navigate the tough times. We had so many good conversations and a number of adventures together. We've stayed friends for more than 30 years, and visited each other at our homes. We last spoke back in April and I was due to call her again soon, so I was devastated when I heard the news of her passing.
It took me a while to post here as I wanted to find a good picture of her from our time in Lesotho but unfortunately, those photos are boxed away somewhere. I'll keep looking.
Sandy and Steven, I heard so much about you over the years and I am so sad for your loss. Jackie, I'll always remember when you and Joan came to visit me and my family. Sending love to you as well.
Joan was a unique individual who touched so many lives. I feel so lucky to have been her friend. - Amy Mortimer

Joan and I met at work at The Counseling Center; and were friends for the next 50+ years. Our last conversation was only hours before she left us; and neither us suspected that would happen. We laughed together, we struggled with all things “Life” can hand out, and I will miss her until I “see” her again! Thank you, Joan, for being such a Wonderful friend. I hope Robbie was waiting at The Gates!! ♥️ Sue

TRIBUTE TO MY AWESOME SISTER, JOAN
We were close since the day I was born 85 years ago. We shared our bedroom for many years. After high school we went our separate ways—married, raised families, pursued careers and passions (Joan with her horses, me with tennis and biking). We connected again in May 1985 on a camping trip to Disney World. That trip was the beginning of many fantastic adventures. For the next 30+ years together we pursued our love of adventure and travel. Trips included Maine, Nova Scotia, Florida, Connecticut, Nebraska, New York, Washington DC, California, Colorado, Utah, Belize, Alaska and the trip of my life—our 5-week camping trip in South Africa while Joan was in the Peace Corp. Thanks for all the memories. I miss you. Your Sister, Jackie

So many memories over the many years of my Aunt Joan, I'll try to remember some of the best.
Being from Omaha, NE - we made it back east several times - early days I was very young, I remember the big red barn and spending time with cousins Steve + Sandy and Aunt Joan - so beautiful up in Maine. I remember her heading out on Peace Corps, and my Mom got a chance to visit - saw so may beautiful pictures and heard so many stories of Lesotho (Africa). Later, I remember trips back east, I remember the beautiful white house on the hill, the horses and sleeping in the top loft with my growing family. After moving to Florida, Aunt Joan and my Mom came to visit - even in a wheelchair after a incident with a horse (I think), we took her and the kids to Disney - what a trooper, my son, Cooper and daughter Carlie helped push her around. We will miss you very much, meetup again in heaven. We love you Aunt Joan. - Dave Foster and Family
