Obituary of Elizabeth "Betty" Beless

Dover-Foxcroft – Elizabeth “Betty” T. Beless, 81, wife of Rev. Ray Beless, passed away peacefully March 3, 2024, at Northern Light Mayo Hospital, Dover-Foxcroft. She was born January 3, 1943, in Presque Isle, the daughter of Keith K. and Marie (Coffin) Thompson. In addition to her loving husband, Ray, Betty is survived by her son, Michael Beless and his special friend, Laurie Mallett; daughter, Amy Hensley and her husband, Kevin; three grandchildren, Hannah, Samuel and Julia; and brother, Greg Thompson and wife, Lorraine. Betty graduated from Houlton High School in the class of 1961. She went on to get a bachelor’s degree in English from Gordon College, class of 1965. She and Ray were married May 8, 1965. Throughout her life she taught high school and college classes. She worked at Pride Manufacturing in the office. The largest focus of her life was fulfilling her role as a faithful wife, daughter, and mom. She has always been involved in church service including choir directing, playing piano, nursing home ministry, and mentoring women. She has taught at many women’s retreats and conferences. She was known as an avid reader and a big fan of mysteries, James Herriot, Agatha Christie, Hercule Poirot, and British television. A memorial service will be held 11am Saturday, April 20, 2024, at the Calvary Chapel Maine Highlands, 48 Morton Ave. Dover-Foxcroft. Burial will be in the family lot in the Gray Cemetery, Dover-Foxcroft. A luncheon will be held after the service.
