Obituary of Randall M. Medeiros
Atkinson, Maine - Retired Police Chief Randall M. Medeiros, 76, passed away December 29, 2022, unexpectedly after a long battle with cancer.
He was born January 9, 1946, and was the son of Retired Police Chief Manuel V. Medeiros (deceased) and Irene Perry Medeiros (deceased). He is survived by his sister, Katherine L. Medeiros of Dartmouth, Massachusetts; his daughter, Kristen R. Medeiros of Punta Gorda, Florida, and her five children, Kasey, Arissa, Unique, Payshence, and Kristian; and his son, Sgt. Randall R. Medeiros, of the Biddeford Maine Police Department, his wife, Melissa, and their son, Victor.
Randy was a lifetime resident of Dartmouth, MA. He graduated from Dartmouth High in 1963. He was a very talented trombonist who played with a number of dance and marching bands after graduation. He opted out of a scholarship to the New England Conservatory of Music to follow other paths.
He was a US Navy Veteran serving as a Gunners Mate 3rd Class aboard the USS Waldron DD-699. He was a Vietnam Veteran and a lifetime member of the DAV, NRA, as well as a member of the VFW and American Legion.
While working as a manager with Brinks Armored Car, he was appointed as a Special Officer in the early 1970’s working at Lincoln Park. He began his full time career with the Dartmouth Police in 1974 as a Patrol Officer. He served as a Firearms Instructor, Self Defense Trainer, and Firearms Licensing Officer. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1983, serving in the Patrol Division, and Captain, Executive Officer in 1993, where he served under Chief Stephen J. Soares (deceased), as second in command. He was appointed Acting Chief in 2000, while a nationwide search was conducted to replace Chief Soares. He was appointed Chief of Police in 2001 at the completion of that process and served in that capacity until his retirement in 2004.
Randy moved to his farm in Atkinson, Maine in 2012, and spent his days enjoying his life with his family and friends.
At his request, private services will be held at the North Atkinson Cemetery in the spring. In keeping with Randy’s desire to serve, in lieu of flowers please keep his memory alive by simply showing kindness and compassion to your neighbors and community, especially to local Veteran and Law Enforcement families.
