Dad,
I could tell a million stories and share a million pictures. You were there for so many special memories both good and bad and you taught me countless life lessons. I share stories of you often and have already shared many of the values you taught me with Victor.
You were my compass, always pointing me in the right direction. You always knew what to do, you consoled me after my loved ones passed. You gave me advice on handling difficult situations in my own life, and we shared work stories, both good and bad. After any particularly strange/exciting/gruesome/traumatic call that I would experience in my own work life I knew I could call you and share what I had just gone through while knowing you had been there, done that, and wrote the book on it. I always appreciated you being there to listen, talk, and share your own experiences.
From when I was a kid I remember your love for the outdoors, you taught me to appreciate the little things in nature like sunsets, thunderstorms, the crisp cool air during a snowstorm, catch-and release fishing, and hunting. Your love for the outdoors and Maine rubbed off on me so much that I moved here, started a rewarding career, made many great friends, met my wonderful, supportive wife, Melissa, and we had my beautiful son, Victor. One of the most meaningful things to me is that they both got to spend time with you and that they both got to appreciate what an amazing person you were. I truly credit you for shaping me into the man I am today, and helping me carve out my life, I'm not quite sure where I would be without you.
We put some miles on, lunch trips to OOB just to get a bacon cheeseburger at Jeremiahs, just to turn around and drive back. Driving to some diner just outside of Amherst because they had the best omelets. bringing me to and from every Saturday practice and game for every sports team for years, you even coached a few of them. You introduced me to the Sebec/Dover/Atkinson area with trips to Dave's hunting camp, and you turned me into a full-blown beach bum with our trips to Old Orchard Beach. You came to every single one of my high-school football games for four years, no matter what time, or how far away. Every July you drove from OOB to Dartmouth just so you wouldn't miss our Wednesday night visitation, just to turn around and drive back a few hours later.
I remember when I was small you were a larger-than-life character, to me you were a real superhero. I remember asking you every day how many bad guys you caught. Everyone knew you and had a story about you, some of them were unbelievable. It was always clear how respected you were, even by those you had arrested, and even fought with in your younger years. You always taught me to treat everyone with dignity and respect, no matter what. Even in your final months, and days I got to see the joy you brought to those around you, the nurses used to tell me how you would crack jokes and make your sarcastic comments, I'm glad that you kept that Medeiros personality right until the end. I emulated you, I always wanted to be just like you, I remember you telling me countless times "Don't be a cop." But I didn't listen, I hope that's the only time I disappointed you.
Throughout my life I have always been so proud to call you Dad. You have worn so many hats in our relationship, but you have always been my best friend. I love you so much. My life will not be the same without you. Daily I think about what I want to talk to you about, how bad I want to call you and hear your voice. You have done incredible things for me and have always been my biggest supporter. You have stood by me through good and bad, and never gloated or said, "I told you so."... Okay maybe you have said that once or twice, but I definitely deserved it.
There is a hole in my heart that I don't think will ever heal. I miss you so much Dad, I love you so much Dad, I cherish the time we spent together and I want you to know that not a second goes by where I don't think about you.
I love you with all of my heart and soul, and if there is a "Other Side" as you called it... I'll see you there.
Love,
Randy

My deepest sympathies to all of the Medeiros family. I had the true pleasure of working with, and then being the assistant to, Chief Medeiros. But the most important part was we became special friends. We stayed in contact all these years and I will miss him beyond words. I was very fortunate to have known him in a professional, as well as, personal manner. A brilliant, caring and dedicated part of our world has been taken from us. Rest in peace, my friend. I will miss you.

I remember Randy as a very special person. He was the guy if you had not seen for 20 years, time was erased in a heartbeat and you were good friends again. Randy knew just what to do and say to make you feel comfortably safe (as long as you were on the right side of the law). I'm sorry that I hurt him, but I still know it was the right thing to do. He always said, "It is what it is." Rest easy my friend. Love and peace to your family

My deepest condolences to the Medeiros Family. I met randy years ago through some good friends of mine that owned the farm property in Atkinson where randy's home sits now. Over the many times of visiting my friends from the White Mountains of New Hampshire I met randy several times. It wasn't long at all before we became good friends. It was a friendship that would last forever. We shared good times, good memories, and had good trust in each other. You couldn't ask for any more out of any one person. Thank You Randy for everything and Thank You Randy for taking me in as your friend. I will miss you, but I will never forget you..............................................................
May you rest in peace Randy

To the family of Chief Randy Medeiros:
Please don't mourn Randy's passing. As he as gone to a far better place then the world that he recently left. Free of pain and suffering from the terrible disease that claimed him. He is free to join his family and friends who had preceded him in everlasting sleep.
I knew Randy personally while I worked the South End of New Bedford as both a patrolman and Sergeant. Whenever something would come up on the boundary Randy and other Dartmouth Cops would be the first to back me up. We had a good relationship while walking that THIN BLUE LINE TOGETHER.
Another really GOOD COP who has stood his last Roll Call and will be missed by many friends and other Cops. Both New Bedford and Dartmouth.

Randy, go rest high on the mountain in God’s heaven where there’s peace and no suffering.
We came on together in 1974. We rode together in car 21 north of route 6, and more times than I can count, went to places in Dartmouth that would make chiefs cringe.
My deepest sympathy to the family and friends who

My father was the best man in my life. His love was unconditional. He was my rock. He was my protector. I’m going to miss out talks on the phone and him telling me he loved me. My father taught me everything from walking, to riding a bike, playing trombone, and also how to love and be a caring person. I couldn’t thank him enough for always being there for me. I had some rough times in my life due to my poor choices in people but my Daddy stood by side through it all. Protected me. Always came to help. He was the best Grandfather to my children. He loved my girls dearly and was a great steady role model for my son. Without his love I don’t know where we all would’ve been. I love my Daddy so much. I was definitely a Daddy’s girl. I remember him always taking me to McDonald’s when I was little even though I was picky and only eat fries. He would always take us on vacations. He made our childhoods great. Santa aka Daddy would always make sure we got what we wanted for Christmas. My father drove in a blizzard in 1996 to Logan airport to pick me up from my band trip to the Rose Parade because I was so upset that we flew in the snow and was afraid to get on a bus for the trip back to Dartmouth. My Father always went above and beyond for us. So many great memories. I can’t express how much he will be missed. I love you Daddy to the moon and back. Till we meet again. Watch over us and keep protecting us. Love always and forever Daddy’s Princess Kristen!!

Randy,
You were my brother, my friend my protector - the guy who always has my back. I could always count on you for advice and support.
When we were little children, we walked to school together. In high school I spent my first period study hall doing your history homework. While in college I worried and prayed daily while you served in Viet Nam until you finally came home to us safe and sound.
You served the town of Dartmouth with integrity, honesty and dedication - as did our father. He would have been so proud of you.
We had long talks on the boat in Padanaram harbor. We got pulled over down the Cape for riding three in a Corvette. All those months when Mum was failing, I could always call you to vent. After she passed away, how hard we worked together to clean out that house. We have been through so much together, both good and bad. Often it was only your sense of humor that got me through.
I will always cherish the opportunity to finally get to see the farm last Christmas. Now I understand why you decided to become a "recluse" in Maine. This October, although your health was starting to decline, you drove 5 hours to Dartmouth to bring me the winter squash and pumpkins you had grown over the summer. Then after a cup of coffee, a cigarette and some pleasant conversation at my kitchen table, you drove another 5 hours back to Maine. When you left little did I know that would be our final hug.
I promise that in your absence and as long as I am able, I will be here for Kristen, Randy, Mel and you 6 grandchildren. You did an admirable job raising your family. I know how much they all meant to you and how much you meant to them. As a family we now have to face whatever the future has to offer without your sound guidance.
Until we meet again "on the other side of the grass", just know you lived a very good life. You made a difference in this world, especially to me.
Love always,
Kathy

To the Medeiros Family:
I am so sorry to hear about Randy Sr. passing. I had the pleasure of meeting him through his son, Randy. He was very proud of his son’s accomplishments in Law Enforcement, from Patrol Officer to Maine Drug Enforcement Agent to Sergeant. Rest in Peace Chief Medeiros. I always enjoyed chatting with him, he was a good man.
Here is a Raymond Chandler Passage that is fitting for Chief Medeiros,
“Down these mean streets a man must go who is not himself mean, who is neither tarnished nor afraid. He is the hero; he is everything. He must be a complete man and a common man and yet an unusual man. He must be, to use a rather weathered phrase, a man of honor—by instinct, by inevitability, without thought of it, and certainly without saying it. He must be the best man in his world and a good enough man for any world.”
Respectfully,

My sincere condolences to Randy, Kristen,Kathy and the entire Medeiros family. Randy was a true friend and mentor.
It would be impossible to mention all he taught me and great times we shared. The years of adventures and friendship will always be cherished. He will live forever in my mind and heart.
He was extremely proud of his family and we talked many times of the values in life, and how the gift of memories are paramount in our lives. Yes Randy, your life made a difference!
Randy loved to fish and especially hunt and he taught me all he knew. Those many nights fishing after work on the Princess K to hunting trips on Nantucket, Canada and in Maine were some of the greatest times we were able to share and formed a bond of other lifetime friends that still continue today. The laughs we had will be retold constantly and never be forgotten !
I’m truly bless to have had him as my friend. Thank you for your teaching of what life is all about.
Godspeed Randy, till we meet again in our next chapter.
