Althea Starbird Rodgers was my late husband's aunt. I remember the first time I met her and visited her home; it was immaculate. I will always remember her as a great homemaker. Her children were grown by the time I met her, but that didn't stop her from cooking like they were still there. She often shared baked goodies with her sisters and sometimes I got a taste. They were always delicious.
My favorite memories of Althea center around the five Crabtree sisters, Courtney, Enola, Winona, Althea, and Marie, visiting at Courtney's camp on Piper Pond in Abbott. There was always plenty of great food, lots of laughter, and occasionally some sisterly bickering. They loved one another and it really showed. She has joined them now and I am sure they are laughing together.
