He was educated in Bangor schools and graduated from UMO, Class of 1987. Joe began teaching in Steuben and in 1996 joined SAD #4 as a physical education teacher. For the last 6 years he enjoyed the responsibility of being the Athletic Director. In 2011, Joe married Amanda Cook. Together they resided in Parkman and welcomed their perfect son, Jonah in 2014. Joe was a loving husband and devoted father. He was a teacher, coach, friend, and mentor to many. He had a passion for officiating basketball and was recently honored with the distinction of 25 years of dedicated service, leadership, and commitment to IAABO, of which he was rightfully proud. Joe and Amanda dedicated more than 8 years hosting exchange students from around the world. They became like daughters, opening a world of new culture and taught them that family is in fact, more than blood. He took great pride in his family and traveling afar to watch nieces and nephews play sports. He enjoyed go carts, board games, and trips with his wife and son, who will miss him tremendously. Joe was predeceased by his father, Frank, and his brother, Jimmy. He is survived by his wife, Amanda; son, Jonah; mother, Eileen; brothers, Michael, Steve, David, Greg; sister, Michele; special brother-in-law, John; in-laws, Wayne and Susan Reed-Burke; and many nieces and nephews.
