Obituary of Georgia E. Hamlin
Milo and Taunton, MA - Georgia E. Hamlin, 72, a native of Milo, but for the past 49 years, a resident of Taunton, MA, died on July 28, 2021 in Taunton.
She was born in Milo, ME on January 5, 1949, the daughter of the late George E. and Frances (Harris) Hamlin. She was a graduate of Milo High School, The University of Maine at Farmington, and earned her Master’s degree at Boston College in a teacher training program affiliated with the Perkins School for the Blind. She taught visually impaired students in the Fall River, MA, school department for 35 years, retiring in 2008.
Georgia was a faithful and devoted wife, sister, niece, cousin and friend. She is survived by her husband, Wallace Skilling, of Taunton, a brother, Neil Hamlin and his wife Barb of Milo, a nephew, Major Anders Hamlin, his wife Lorelei, and their children, Hadley, Thomas, and Bridget of McChord AFB, Washington, a niece, Dr. Jean Hamlin and her husband, E.Katahdin Fitzgerald of Dover-Foxcroft, ME, and by three aunts, Joan Finemore, and her husband Vernal of Oakland, ME, Shirlene Ladd of Milo, ME, and Carolyn Paul and her husband Philip of Millinocket, ME. She is also survived by a brother in law, David Skilling and his wife Abby, and a sister in law, Dr. Heather Skilling.
Georgia was an extremely outgoing person and had many friends. She enjoyed photography, cats, and was a fine pianist. She was for many years, a member of the Morton Hospital Auxiliary in Taunton. Georgia was a strong, committed Christian. As a young person, teenager, and woman, she was a member of the United Baptist Church in Milo. After moving to Taunton she was a member of the Winthrop Street Baptist Church. She felt blessed by God to provide a music ministry at those two churches.
A graveside memorial committal will be held 2:30PM Thursday, August 19, 2021, at the Evergreen Cemetery, Milo, with Pastor Phil McGlauflin officiating. Local arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home. Messages of condolence and memories may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com.
