Obituary of Vella Ryder Crossman

Greenville – Vella Ryder Crossman passed away suddenly at Northern Light C.A. Dean Hospital on May 15, 2021. Vella was born in Greenville on November 8, 1926, the daughter of C. Winfield and Freda B. Ryder. Her greatest treasure and pride was her family. Vella was a devoted fan of all Greenville High School sports teams; in fact, she twice shared Spectator of the Year with her sister and best friend Mary. She and Mary were often seen about town at Breton’s, The Dairy Bar, and “on the road” to Shirley. Vella was a life member of the People's United Methodist Church. Vella is survived by her sister Mary R. Genest; sister-in-law, Donna Ryder; son, Charles and his wife, Betty, their daughter Lyn and her husband, Dan; son, John and his wife, Barbara, their sons Ryan and Thomas and his wife, Robyn; and son, Brian and his wife, Jana, and their son Aaron. She leaves great-grandchildren, Lorryn and her husband, Garrison, Courtney, Cooper, Fallon, Liam, Colin, Tilly, Emma, Kennedy, Hallie, and Atlas; and great-great-grandchildren, Carson, Vella, and Anderson; as well as so many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 58 years Lloyd G.; her brother, C. W. “Bub” Ryder; sister, Norma Ryder Hanson; and brothers-in-law, Harry Genest and Edward “Ted” Hanson. At Vella’s request her memorial service will be held at People’s United Methodist Church, with Pastor Ashley Ewing officiating. The service will take place on May 22, 2021 at 2 p.m. Immediately following the service all are welcome to join the family at the Greenville Cemetery for burial.
