Obituary of John Julian Roberts
Greenville - John Julian Roberts passed away peacefully on April 29th, 2021, in the wee hours of the morning at his home.
Born on November 20, 1932, to Volney & Marion (Race) Roberts, John grew up in Greenville and graduated from Greenville High School. After Graduation, he served honorably in the US Air Force.
In March of 1952, he married his high school sweetheart, Diane Bartley Roberts, and together they had three children, Alan, Thomas and Judith.
John worked for many years in the Moosehead Lake region and among his favorite were W.L. Bartley, Great Northern Paper, Greenville High School and the Maine Forest Service, where he met many lifelong friends.
A long-time volunteer for the fire department and town, John was a member of the American Legion, airport committee, a town selectman and celebrated being a Mason for 50 years, which he was very proud of.
John’s creativity and love of ‘tinkering” and “collecting” led him to create many wonderful creations for his children, grand-children and great grandchildren, including many award-winning Greenville parade floats.
An outdoor enthusiast, John enjoyed camping and exploring the north woods with his family and was very knowledgeable about the landscape, natural resources, history and people of the Moosehead area.
John and Diane loved traveling, once exploring the entire shoreline of Moosehead Lake by canoe and traveled across the country visiting many State and National Parks.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years Diane Bartley Roberts, his brother Bob (Robert) Roberts and niece Robin Brown, son Alan Roberts and wife Belinda, Judy Collins and husband Gregg, along with his 8 grandchildren, special among them, Benjiman, Allison, Chris, Hilaire, Hannah, Holly & 11 great grandchildren Connor, Chloe, Tracer, Lakely, Gabrielle, Ripley, Jack & Max, several special nieces and nephews and cherished cat Lewie. He was predeceased by his parents Volney & Marion (Race) Roberts, son Tommy (Thomas) Roberts and4-legged friend Duffy.
