Obituary of Judith Ann Leighton

Dover-Foxcroft - Judy unexpectedly passed away on February 11, 2021. Judy was born on February 21, 1949, in Dover-Foxcroft to Harland E. Collins, of Dover-Foxcroft, and Marion H. Stone, of Corinna. Judy grew up in Dover-Foxcroft and graduated from Foxcroft Academy in 1967. She attended the University of Maine at Farmington, graduating in 1971 and married the love of her life, Patrick, later that same year on August 14th. Judy and Pat lived in Millinocket for a few years, then returned to Dover-Foxcroft where both continued their teaching careers. Judy taught mostly first grade for 31 years and loved every minute. She touched so many lives and changed them for the better. Judy took on her favorite job in August of 1984, when she finally became a mother to Amy. She thrived in this role and loved every minute of being a truly devoted mother. Judy was a very active member in the United Methodist Church for most of her life. She loved leading the Church Youth Group and Girl Scouts for many years. Judy was also a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She had a deep and abiding faith that sustained her throughout her life. She is now in His loving arms with family and friends who have gone before. Judy retired from teaching in 2007 and was able to spend more quality time with family. In 2007, Judy realized a life long dream when she traveled with Pat and Amy to Florida and finally got to meet Mickey Mouse. Judy will be dearly missed by everyone. Judy is survived by her husband, Pat, of 49 years; her daughter Amy, of Dover-Foxcroft; her brother Michael Collins, and his wife Arvilla, of Englewood, FL. She is also survived by several special nieces and nephews. She is remembered by many special friends who became like family. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a service will be held at a later date in the spring. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 62, Dover-Foxcroft, ME 04426.
