Obituary of Thomas W. Young
Williamsburg – Thomas W. Young, 81, passed away February 16, 2021, at Ross Manor, Bangor. He was born October 11, 1939, in Milo, the son of Francis S. and Edna (Pray) Young. Thomas proudly served in the United States Army before a long career dedicated to the railroad. He worked as an engineer for Bangor and Aroostook Railroad, the Canadian Pacific Railroad, and retired from the Canadian Atlantic Railway after a 29 year career in 1997. He was a member of the Pleasant River Masonic Lodge # 163 where he received his 50 year pin on April 18, 2016. Thomas was a devoted husband, father and Grampy, as well as an avid outdoorsman. His favorite pastimes were hunting and fishing. He enjoyed camping at Jo Mary and doing bean hole dinners with family and friends. He always appreciated his time planting and tending to his garden. Thomas absolutely adored his grandchildren and was always involved with what they were doing, whether it was athletics, horseback riding, or attending Tiffany’s Special Olympics. He was known for his wit, helping hand and always had an answer for everything.
Thomas was predeceased by his loving wife of 59 years, Eva (Ladd) Young; his father, Francis Young; his mother, Edna Pray Young Hunt; and his stepfather, Joseph Hunt. He is survived by two sons, Eric Young and his fiancée, Leanne Bailey, and Mark Young and his wife, Cherilyn; two daughters, Marcia Conlogue and her husband, Hazen, and Paula Young; sister, Belinda (Young) Pike and her husband, William, and their children; and a brother-in-law, Neil Ladd and his wife, Alice, and their children. He will be missed by his six beloved grandchildren, Nick Young, Ben Young, Tiffany Young, Alexa Grover, Marissa Grover, and Abigail Conlogue; and a great-grandson, Zack. He enjoyed his time with close friends, David and Cathy Dow.
The family would like to thank Ross Manor and its staff for their kindness and compassion while taking such wonderful care of Thomas.
Graveside services in Barnard Cemetery will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in his honor to Bangor Humane Society, 693 Mt. Hope Ave., Bangor, ME 04401, or PAWS (Penquis Animal Welfare Sanctuary), 39 Clinton Street, Milo, ME 04463. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home.
