I first met Andrew through the Advancing Leaders Program in APHIS. We were both students in the program, but Andrew had more work experience than me and seemed to have a knack for getting things done that I hadn't learned yet. He set up a project for many of us to participate in that took us to Maine, where he was based at the time, for two weeks. I learned a ton from him and from the project, and also had a lot of fun visiting Acadia National Park and enjoying other downtime activities with him. He
Later he came to Riverdale, where I worked, and it was great to be able to work closely with him again. We were successive detailees to part of the Asia portfolio for PPQ for a while, me first and then him, and he helped me navigate PPQ bureaucracy while i brought him up to speed on the issues. Andrew always went out of his way to help, and if you helped him in return, you had a friend you could count on. And he always had a good joke or a great story to tell - it was always great to stop by his cubicle or office just to say hi.
Still later, I decided to try my luck at a different agency. They were trying to begin a project involving GIS but couldn't figure out how. Andrew came down to meet with us and get us started in the right direction. There was basically no possible professional benefit that could have accrued to him from doing this - he just enjoyed helping others, being a public servant, and connecting people who wanted to do good work.
I tried to keep in touch, and I always hoped I'd get to work with him again. I'll miss him a lot, as I'm sure those who knew him better than I will do as well.

I met Andrew at Georgetown University in 2016. He was a good friend, had a vast knowledge of many topics, and was a great conversationist. Grateful to have known him. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

I was with USDA in Nogales AZ when Andrew started as an officer there. Enjoyed working with him and he was always interesting to talk to. We shared an interest in keeping reptiles and Andrew would "foster" some of our critters when we would go on vacation. Keep in touch with him thru the years and always enjoyed hanging out with him when we would cross paths. He will be missed!

Love this tribute to Andrew. I was devastated when I heard this sad news. Andrew was a great guy with a lot of passion, innovation, and inclusion. He was super smart, loved his APHIS job, and enjoyed a lot of activities with his wife and son. He told me that he designed and handmade a guitar for his son. Once I moved to the 5th floor, we did not get to have our weekly talks about life in which I missed. Thoughts, hugs, and prayers to Sherry and Forest. RIP my dear friend, I miss you dearly.

I worked with Andrew for ten years and always loved when he stopped by my office to chat. He was as original as you could get and never changed to fit anyone's expectations. He showed everyone that you don't need to change who you are to succeed, and that you should always stay true to yourself. I loved to see his beard getting longer every year and to hear him talk about his life in Maine and his love of his family. I spoke to Andrew a couple months ago and he was so excited and charged up about his latest project, the loss of his positive energy will be felt for a long time. I am shocked to hear of his passing and I don't think it will ever sink in. Time is a precious thing. My thoughts go out to his family at this difficult time.
Never forgotten,
Nicole Russo

I'm sorry to hear about Andrew and extend my condolences to his family. I first met Andrew in 2004 on the HLB project in Miami and got to see his pride and joy; the "EM-50" mobile command post. This was probably the first true ICS structured incident for PPQ and FDACS in the nation and it was just like Andrew to be there on the cutting edge. Although I only worked with him for six weeks during that program; I have always considered him a friend from that point forward. Even though it may have been years between seeing Andrew at a meeting, etc.; it was always like I had just seen him yesterday. Andrew had dinner with us at the house in 2005 and my son still talks about it from time to time. Andrew was always one to think outside the box and bring a different perspective to any discussion. Always a good story-teller; the emu story will forever be etched in my memory of him. I will sorely miss talking with him and giving him a hard time about field radios being outdated technology but most of all his kind friendship. Love you brother. Matt Brodie

I didn't know you Andrew but I know your name from the Agency.
I didn't have the chance to call out your name in the halls of the same.
I didn't expect to hear of this news but I felt such an urgency.
I didn't expect to have tears saying your name.
I didnt know you Andrew but Ill miss you all the same.
Respectfully, B.L.

My sincerest condolences to Sherry, Forest and family for their loss. Andrew was such an amazing person with so much knowledge, drive and energy to be the best at everything he tackled. I have had the great pleasure of knowing and being friends with Andrew for nearly 17 years, I will sorely miss him. In remembering him, I thought I would share some pictures I came across from the early days when Andrew was involved in Incident Command Structure (ICS) and utilizing the Deployable Resource Unit, better known as the DRU. Andrew designed and built the DRU from a new hollowed out 53 ft. Cargo trailer utilizing multiple contractors to complete the work. Andrew was instrumental in advancing Emergency Response in USDA, he was a visionary and a true leader to the Agency.

I am so sorry to hear of cousin Andy's passing. I am so glad I got to meet you when we first moved to Lordsburg. You always had some kind of snake you were feeding and that big iguana in the back apartment at your moms house. Fly high cousin you are loved and missed by all that knew you. You left this world to soon, but you will always be apart of us in some way or the other. Love and miss you cousin.

I was so sorry to hear of Andys passing. I really enjoyed getting to know him better when we moved to Lordsburg years ago. He was quite a character. Loved his knowledge that he was more than happy to share with us about the local desert critters. I look forward to meeting him again in better times ahead. He will be missed! My sorrow goes out to all his family and friends.

My heartfelt condolences to Sherryl, Forest, Andrew’s parents and other family members. I am so sorry. Andrew and I were colleagues and friends. He was creative, thoughtful, free spirited and loved his family deeply. We talked about family, special occasions, projects, photography and so many other things. He would send me information about real estate in Maine and random just checking in messages. I will miss him and remember him. May family and friends find comfort and peace.
