Brownville - Karen (Regina) Madore Dean, 68, succumbed to Alzheimer’s Disease on January 10, 2021, after a lengthy illness at her home in Brownville. Karen was born August 5, 1953, in Milo. She was the daughter of Joseph C. and Marcelle (Roy) Madore of Brownville. She graduated from Penquis Valley High School in Milo in 1971 and attended Farmington State Teachers College until a handsome young sailor made a visit and swept her off her feet! Karen and George were married at Chapel by the Sea at Naval Communications Training Center, Pensacola, FL, on November 22, 1972. In addition to living in Pensacola they traveled to the Philippines, Newfoundland, and finally to Winter Harbor, ME, where George retired from the U.S. Navy in 1988.They ended up back where their love blossomed in Brownville Junction, not far from where Karen grew up. They celebrated 48 years of marriage last November where they raised their three sons to adulthood and enjoyed babysitting their five grandchildren and attending many happy family gatherings. She was active as a Sunday School teacher for several years in the Brownville Jct. Catholic Church. During her time as a Navy wife, Karen served as Chief Petty Officer’s Ombudsman and worked as a payroll clerk and auditor for Navy Recreational Services. She also worked as a substitute teacher at various down east schools and later in Penquis Valley schools. In addition, she was a certified Personal Care Attendant in the Brownville/Milo area. Karen was a talented seamstress and enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She loved to hike and shop with one of her best friends, Judy Dickie, as well as maintaining beautiful plants and flowers in her yard. Highlights of her life were cruises to the Caribbean with many family members on the Disney cruise line as well as a two-week cruise to Hawaii and a Cyr bus tour to Washington D.C. She was a fantastic cook as can be shown by George’s “healthy” appearance! In addition to her parents, Karen was predeceased by a sister, Paula. Surviving in addition to her husband, George, are sister, Ann, of Venice, FL and her son and daughter, Chris and Michelle; brother, Richard of Brownville; sister, Teri and husband, John, of Fort Fairfield and their sons, Nick and Thomas; and a brother, Michael, who has been missing for several years. She is also survived by sons, Gregory and his wife, Kelley, of Levant, and their daughters, Aleah and Ava; Gary of Waldo; and Justin and his wife, Megan, of Orono and their children, Russell, William, and Harrison; as well as many nieces and nephews. Karen was cared for at home by a wonderful caregiver, Amy Pierce, who lovingly took care of her until the end. Daughter-in-law, RN Megan Dean provided medical care, keeping Karen comfortable and safe until Alzheimer’s took her from us. A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, June 5, 2021, at the family lot in Pine Tree Cemetery, Brownville, with brother-in-law Pastor Stephen Dean officiating.
