Obituary of Patrick J.H. Stone

Brownville- Patrick J.H. Stone, 74, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer July 3, 2016, at his home. He was born July 6, 1941, in Richmond, the son of Edward and Bernice (Russell) Stone. Patrick graduated from Brownville Junction High School, Class of 1959. He joined the United States Air Force in February of 1961. On his second tour of duty in San Antonio, Texas, he met the love of his life, Virginia Palitza and they were married on November 14, 1964. Patrick served in the United States Air Force for 23 years and in August of 1984 retired as a Master Sergeant. He then returned home to Brownville with his family and began a 20-year career as a correctional officer at the Charleston Correctional Facility. Patrick was a member of the American Legion Post #92 and of the Brownville Junction High School Alumni Association for many years. He enjoyed fishing, tending to his flowers and blueberry bushes, and working bingo on Tuesday nights. In addition to Patrick’s loving wife of 51 years, Virginia, he is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Sullivan and her husband, John, of Orrington; his son, Kenneth Stone and his wife, Lesley (Smart) of Milo; his very special granddaughter, Caitlyn Wood of Orrington; two step-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Josh Blanchard of Milo; two brothers, Ronald Stone, and Walter Stone and his wife, Kaye, all of Brownville; his last surviving sister, Ginger Weston and her husband, Johnny, of Brownville Junction; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Patrick was predeceased by two sisters, Peggy Burlock, and Frances Weston. A graveside memorial service with military honors will be conducted 1PM Saturday, July 9, 2016, at the family lot in Pinetree Cemetery, Brownville Junction, with Rev. Stephen Dean officiating. Immediately after the service family and friends are invited to continue to celebrate Patrick’s life at the American Legion Building, Brownville Junction.
