John was a good friend of my Dad's. I think they were college buddies. Growing up as a little kid, I always enjoyed the times when John and my Dad would get together. I liked John's love of the outdoors and believe he was the first one to explain cross country skiing to me. I also vaguely remember the sporting good shop and being impressed as a kid that he had so much cool camping gear available. John said a few words at my father's funeral in 2011 and that really meant a lot to my brother and I. We also came to learn that the iconic photo of my Dad, taken by John, was not what it appeared. It showed my father on top of an icy peak wearing crampons. John finally let the cat out of the bag and explained it was actually an easy hike and they only put the crampons on at an icy spot on the top to make it look impressive.
I recently found a box of slides that my father had that are dated 1968 They say Return to John Ricker. IF anyone in the family would like them, let me know and can send them. Chris Sewall (sewall_c@yahoo.com)
