Please share a memory of Aubrey to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Sebec – Aubrey D. Acker, 93, passed away October 23, 2020, in Sebec. He was born on August 15, 1927, in Kingston, Nova Scotia, one of six children of Perley and Effie Acker. He immigrated to this country in 1952 with his late wife of 68 years, Madeline, and two children, later adding number three. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle. He was also a friend to many across this country and Canada. He and his family also hosted a student from Finland in 1968/69, Kirsi Sell, who came back with her husband, Jokke as a surprise to help celebrate his 80th birthday. Aubrey and Madeline traveled the world, but mostly the United States and Canada. If they missed a State or Province it was an oversight. He was also a friend to many around the continent and would drop everything to lend a hand to anyone. They once drove their 1930 Model A Roadster from Massachusetts to California with another couple as it was the man’s dying wish and they didn’t think they should travel alone. They also took many trips with their three girls during their school breaks, including a trip to Mexico to see a bull fight, the Grand Canyon, the Painted Desert and of course Disneyland. He was a well-respected builder in Massachusetts and some of his children and grandchildren carry on the tradition of building custom homes in the same area today. He continued his creativity in his later years working with stained glass. He created many memorable pieces of art that will be enjoyed for many generations. He is survived by his three daughters and their families: Starr and Verl Gillespie of Wendell, Minnesota, Twila and Warren “Rody” Palmer of Westford, Massachusetts, and Joan and Harold “Buddy” Baird of Sebec, Maine. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren: Jolene Fagan, Kirsi Baird, Titus Palmer and his wife, Melissa, Travis Preble and his wife, Myndie, Melanie Baird and her husband, Patrick Hanson, Max Palmer and his wife, Jessica, and Sam Palmer; as well as sixteen great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Instead of flowers please donate to Sebec Village Assoc. (SVA) in care of Joan Baird, 87 Sunset Drive, Sebec, Maine 04481, who will donate half of your generous donation to Hospice who made caring for him at home possible and use the other half to improve and maintain their community building. A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 am Tuesday, October 27, 2020, at the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft. Burial will follow in the family lot in the Dover Cemetery.
