Obituary of Everett L. Colson

Please share a memory of Everett to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
DOVER-FOXCROFT- Everett L. Colson, 61, died Sept 25, 2020, at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center. He was born on Oct 25, 1958, in Ludwigsburg, Germany, to SFC (RET) Everett S. Colson, and Johanna E. (Grampp) Colson. Everett then traveled the world to his father’s next duty station, wherever it may be. From Ft. Devens, MA, to Ft. Carson, CO, to any point in between, Everett was a well-versed Army brat until his father’s retirement. After graduating from Foxcroft Academy in 1976, Everett joined the U.S. Army as an Air Defense Artillery (Chaparral Missile Crewman) Soldier and was sent to Ft. Bliss, TX for his Basic Combat Training. However, during his training, Everett had broken his foot and had to be medically discharged. It was during his wait for his discharge that Everett met the love of his life, Maria M. Mellon, and he soon married her, and received his discharge from the U.S. Army. Everett and Maria immediately moved back to Dover-Foxcroft, and he soon started working at local mills until he finally found his place at Pride Manufacturing where he proudly worked until 2007. During his time in Maine after his brief Army stint, Everett became an avid connoisseur of popcorn, dry humor, and sarcasm. He also cherished his beloved electric blue Geo Metro, and his gas mileage (that he often bragged about) that came with it. Everett also became the “most lovable curmudgeon” to his children’s many friends that frequented the house, and either his children or their friends would not have had it any other way. During his final years, Everett got into photography and had several friends who helped mentor him to become a ‘mildly avid’ photographer. Despite his reputation for being a stubborn man, Everett made a lot of new friends via social media that loved to test his witty banter, and political point of views. And no matter the end of their conversations, they all still loved and cared for Everett, as he did for them. Everett was predeceased by his parents, Everett and Johanna, and by adoring wife, Maria M. Colson. He is survived by his children who loved him very much, Michelle Mellon, of Dover-Foxcroft, John Mellon and wife, Stephanie, of Lawson, Colo., James Colson of Westbrook, and Joshua Colson and wife, JaShelle, of Bangor; loving grandchildren, Brittany Tyler Curtis and husband, Cory, Brandon Michael Dyer, Abigail Rose Mellon, Kyren Luke Mellon, Matthew Patrick Fillmore, Ayden Amos Mellon, and Joshua Everett Ames; his great-grandchild, Bentley Michael Curtis; and very close members to the family Samantha Ames, and Kenneth Corson. At his request, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers and cards, the family requests that you donate to your local Animal Shelters, and to support your local small businesses. Arrangements are in the care of Lary Funeral Home. Messages of condolence and memories may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com.
