Brownville – Walter David Stone, 80, husband of Catherine M. (Martin) Stone, passed away peacefully at his home on August 4, 2020 surrounded by his family. He was born October 29, 1939, in Brownville, the son of Edward Fredonia and Bernice Velma (Russell) Stone. Walter served with the U.S. Air Force for 24 years. He was a member of the Bernard Jones American Legion Post #92 in Brownville. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Catherine; his daughters, Tanya Baumgartner and her husband, Todd, of Savannah, GA, and Shannon Varble and her husband, Brian, of Atlanta, GA; a brother, Ronald Stone; a sister, Ginger Weston; a grandson, Dr. Alexander Baumgartner; and his best buddy, Bubba. Walter was predeceased by a son, Sean Edward Stone; a brother, Patrick Stone; and two sisters, Frances Weston, and Peggy Burlock. A private graveside memorial service with military honors will be conducted at a later date at the family lot in Pine Tree Cemetery, Brownville Junction. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Beacon Hospice Care, 1026 Stillwater Ave., Bangor, ME 04401, or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
