Obituary of Charles Edwin Stevens
Milo - Charles Edwin “Stevie” Stevens passed peacefully July 24, 2020, and went to be with his wife in Heaven. Charles was born July 17, 1932, in Milo, the son of Augustus Hamilton Stevens and Lucy Blanche Crockett. After high school he was drafted into the U.S. Navy where he served five and a half years during the Korean War. Upon returning to Milo in 1953 Charles worked many jobs but spent much of his life working for the Maine State Department of Transportation.
In 1969 Charles married Virginia Nancy “Ginger” Stanchfield Vail, “the love of his life and went on to have the most wonderful life together.” He raised Ginger’s children, Valerie Vail Robertson, Joel Vail, and Charles Vail, and “loved them dearly.” Ginger went to be with God in 1996 and Charles never stopped loving and missing her. Charles adored children and spent many hours babysitting his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He never missed an opportunity to give his big bear hugs and also loved to tease. Charles was a big, gentle, and compassionate man who lists finding the Lord Jesus as his greatest achievement. Charles was active in the Methodist Church and loved to cheer on the local high school sports teams. He wanted people to know that he loved and appreciated the caring that his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews showed him. He also appreciated the many caregivers who supported him in his final years.
Charles was predeceased by his siblings, Daniel Roger Stevens, Inez Mae Stevens O’Connor, Charlene Crockett Stevens Willinski, and Thais Augusta Stevens Zamboni.
