Obituary of Nell V. Hamlin

Please share a memory of Nell to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Brownville – Nell V. Hamlin, 95, wife of the late Robert E. Hamlin, passed away January 27, 2020, at Mayo Regional Hospital, Dover-Foxcroft. Born in Ridgley Tennessee, Nell was predeceased by her parents; brothers, Carey, Beans and Johnny; sisters, Martha and Mable; as well as brothers and sisters-in-law. She leaves many nieces and nephews who all loved Aunt Nell. She moved to Milo Maine following her marriage to Bob. She arrived by train meeting her new in-laws (and half the town – all relatives) for the first time as she waited for Bob to return from England during the war. An example of the strength and determination she showed all her life. They eventually moved to Millinocket where she was active in the Congregational Church, worked for Sears and kept a warm and nourishing home for her two children and Bob. A lovely old house in Brownville called them there where she lovingly redecorated and restored its many rooms and joined Bob and many friends trekking all over the countryside on their snowmobiles. They found a new and loving church home at the Brownville Community Church, forming many life-long friendships and connections to the community. Failing eyesight necessitated a move to Quarry Pines in Brownville. Their final home there became a much enjoyed and appreciated spot. Freed from the need to keep up a multi-room house and worry about upkeep, she settled in to the warm and cozy apartment, cuddled with Penny the cat and enjoyed many suppers with Brian and Jeanne, in addition to Sunday night pizza and beer with Jan, George, Brian and Jeanne, visits with the Maine Grand and Great Grand kids and calls from those living out of the state. She will be missed. She is survived by a son, Brian Hamlin and his wife, Jeanne (Treworgy) of Brownville; a daughter, Janice Barton and her husband, George, of Dover-Foxcroft; seven grandchildren, Kim Haffenreffer, Casey Hamlin and partner, Shawn Getchell, Tucker Hamlin and wife Kelly, Darcy Barton and husband, Bob, Erin Edging and husband, Mike, Sarah Johnson and husband, Shawn, Tom Barton and wife, Jenn; and 19 great-grandchildren. Per Nell’s wishes, an informal gathering of family and friends to remember her will be held at the Brownville Community Church on Saturday, February 8, at 2:00PM. Graveside services will be held in the spring at the family lot in Evergreen Cemetery, Milo. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home.
