Obituary of Richard Ralph Carey

Pittsfield – Richard Ralph Carey, 66, passed away May 31, 2016, at Maine Medical Center in Portland. He was born November 16, 1949, in Milo, the son of Harry V. and Evelyn E. (Conary) Carey. He was a graduate of Milo High School, Class of 1968, and EMVTI in 1970 with an Associate’s Degree. He retired from the railroad after 36 years. Richard enjoyed working with his hands, creating metal sculptures and restoring antiques. He also enjoyed working in his garden, fixing up his boats, barbequeing and spending time with his family. An avid outdoorsman, he especially liked hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren. He loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. His animals were important to him – no expense was too great to keep them well. He enjoyed going to auctions, as he just loved a bargain. He was loved by his Penny, children and grandchildren. He is survived by his significant other, Penny Gorman; two sons, Jeremy Carey and his wife, Alicia, and Jeremy “Pudge” Carey; two daughters, Jennifer Bickford and her husband, Carl, and Jennifer Castonguay and her husband, Gene; a step-daughter, Heather Topel; a sister, Ruth Janeski; several grandchildren, Paige, Alison, Grace, Elijah, Spencer, Vegas, Kennedy, and Sullivan. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Harry E. Carey. A graveside service at the family lot in Evergreen Cemetery, Milo, with a Celebration of Life afterwards, will be announced at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to either PAWS, 39 Clinton Street, Milo 04463 or to the Maine Lost Cat Recovery, with check payable to Bath Print Shop, 44 Front Street, Bath 04530, and Maine Lost Cat Recovery entered in the memo field.
