Obituary of Opal Jennie Bennett

Abbot and Dover-Foxcroft – Opal Jennie (Stone) Bennett, 97, rejoined her husband, parents and siblings April 16, 2019, in Dover-Foxcroft.  Opal was born February 3, 1922, in Guilford to Eugene and Ruby (Race) Stone.  She lived her entire life in Abbot until moving to Main Street West in Dover-Foxcroft several years ago.

 

She was valedictorian of her Guilford High School Class of 1939. Opal was a 4-H club leader, belonged to the Extension and Willing Workers of Abbot, as well as the Abbot Historical Society.  She was a member of the Abbot Congregational Church, the Pythian Sisterhood, was

an 80 plus year member of the Grange in Abbot and in Guilford Center, along with Piscataquis Pomona, State and National Grange.

 

Opal was predeceased by her parents; husband, Lloyd, in September of 1981; her sister, Ellen Merrill; and Harold, an infant brother.

 

She is survived by a son, Craig Bennett and his wife, Carolyn, of Casa Grande, AZ; a son, Wayne Bennett and his wife, Estella, of Guilford; a grandson, Aaron Bennett, and his wife, Velvet, of Guilford; a grandson, Adam Bennett and his companion, Deanna Cleary, of Houlton; and great-grandchildren, Elaina, Owen, and Lloyd Bennett of Guilford, and Eric and Molly Bennett of Dexter.

 

The family wishes to thank Hibbard Nursing Home and its' staff for their compassionate care of Opal.

 

A graveside committal service will be held at the family lot in the Abbot Village Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are in the care of Lary Funeral Home. Condolences and memories may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com.
