Warren (and Linda) took a group of four us on an epic trip down the St. John in May 1994. Left us all with great memories. I summed it up in my journal: "The trip has been tiring, arduous, boring, fun, exciting, cold, wet, hot, and exasperating. Basically, a lot of fun!"
Rest in Peace.

I am Bev Antaeus' niece and was deeply saddened to hear of Warren's passing. Warren was very influential in my life. He and Bev took me -- a then scrawny, bucktoothed, but earnest kid -- into the wilds of Maine and showed me the mettle I was made of. Those lessons in grit and determination never left me--in fact they became core to who I am.
I still think of Warren often and am sorry that this powerhouse of a man had to endure physical decline in his later years. I will remember him in the rivers, woods, and mountains. I will remember him when I tap into my inner fortitude. I will remember Warren Cochrane because I am better for having had him in my life.

I’m so sorry to read about Mr. Cochran. That’s how I remember him, as my teacher. He was always way ahead of the times and one of the most amazing teachers I ever had. A progressive thinker, for sure!! It’s so hard to realize that he was 81!!! Please know my thoughts are with all your family...

Rest in peace Warren. I send my love to his wonderful family as well. He taught me to ski and to paddle and about nutrition; lifting weights as well. He was an extraordinary person who should have lived "beyond a century" and will in the hearts of many for his thoughtful friendship and always teaching, which he did with incredible passion. (No one has ever made a "chocolate" cake like Warren, in the open air along side the Allagash!)

Really appreciated Warren's entry into the supplement business with high quality products and powders. Many of which you couldn't buy anywhere else. Ground breaking in many ways back in the old days...even for a Yale guy. Thanks again.

I'm not sure where to start. Warren made such a difference in my life. I first met him as a teacher at Webster Academy. He formed a weightlifting club there which I joined and did well at thanks to him pushing us. The Friday evenings at the Southbridge Y were brutal but we gained strength through it, We traveled to weightlifting meets all over Ma., Ct. and R.I. The trips in his Saab were terrifying. He helped me through Chemistry as I struggled with that subject. Being on the high school ski club were fantastic skiing Tuckerman's Ravine and the like. We took classes for efficeint thinking in Boston together which were inspiring. Then I was asked to join the Allagash Canoe Trip in the early 60's. I went one year as a tripper and the following two years as a staff member. Warren taught me so much on those trips, correct paddling, poling, reading the rapids etc. I will never forget those wonderful years and the guidance he gave me. I am an organic gardener because of him and his teachings. My life wouldn't be the same without his patience and guidance. I will forever be grateful to him. He touched so many lives in a positive way.
Rest in peace my friend.

Warren was one of the most interesting, intelligent people I had the pleasure of knowing. He was a great influence in my life for a variety of reasons. For those that grew up in Greenville during his time as a teacher and coach he challenged all of us to a different way of looking at life. I have some incredible memories of the farm and chemistry, physics and health class. I owe my interest in health and fitness to Warren. Very fortunate to have known him and be close to his family.

He was the most inspiring teacher I ever had. I wasn't a very good student and was always told I wasn't living up to my potential. He taught me to not be satisfied with the norm and to seek knowledge in my own way which has always served me well. He helped make my life a wondrous journey and I will always be grateful for his introduction to logical thinking.

He was an amazing athlete.
Spending 18 days with Linda and Warren on the Colorado River in 2001 was a special treat.

Nearly fifty years ago, Warren called me to ask if I was available to fill in for someone who had cancelled his reservation for a trip down the Allagash Wilderness Waterway. It turned out to be one of those opportunities of a lifetime. Warren taught me how to safely navigate a canoe through the wildest rapids, how to set up camp, cook over an open fire, and experience the best the Northwoods had to offer. I will never forget poling up the St. Francis with Canada on one side and Maine on the other. The reward was an evening spent on Cedar Island, in the middle of Cross Lake, an island that was covered with old cedar needles almost a foot deep.
That was the first of several adventures on the Allagash, all of which were rich in unforgettable memories and often times the beginning of lifelong friendships.
Warren was also a teacher and a mentor during my high school years at G.H.S. He taught me Biology, Chemistry and Physics; and I will never forget the pleasure he took from demonstrating what happens when you add pure sodium to water. He encouraged me to continue my scientific interests by applying to Engineering schools in Canada and the U.S. I'm sure his recommendations went a long way in getting me accepted at McGill University in Montreal. This was the beginning of a ten year journey that took me from Maine to California and finally to Paris and I credit Warren with giving me the confidence and belief that I could survive and prosper in the face of multiple challenges and adversity.
Warren coached the ski team for my last three years of high school and I will always remember the trip to Sunday River our senior year where we competed for the state championship. We came up a bit short but we came away from the weekend feeling like we had given it our all. It was the first time for most of us to experience a real ski jump; the exhilaration and feeling of flying when you shot off the jump remains with me to this day.
I graduated from G.H.S. fifty years ago but hardly a day has passed during those years that I haven't reflected on the significant impacts Warren had and continues to have on my life. I have no doubt that I am a far better person for having known and shared experiences with Warren during those formative years.
Rest in peace my dear friend; and may you be blessed with many dreams of calm waters and clear skies and a sleek canoe sliding effortlessly through the cool, clear waters of the Allagash.

Sending love and prayers to all of Warren’s family and friends. I have some wonderful memories of time spent on Sugar Island and Avon Old Farms. When I was 15 Warren took me to a Yale football game! I was in awe! When he was on a canoe trip he wrote me a letter on a piece of birch bark. Years later when I was hiking with my husband I took a piece of bark off a tree and i wrote to him, reminding him of the letter he wrote many years before. His dad Herb and my dad were first cousins who were like brothers. Loved his mom and dad! May he rest in peace!

My condolences to the Cochrane family. I have many fond memories of Coach Cochrane. He made us do things we hated that others wouldn’t but he also let us do things we loved. He always had a refreshing attitude that was contrary to the establishment. He certainly made us laugh, he pushed us and we were all better for it. I’m not sure if this is the place, but I have 50 different stories that make me smile 30 years later. It has always been a positive point in my life to say we were trained by the master. He got us the best equipment at the best deal and always gathered the best training. We made trips across the northeast to train and had plenty of laughs and sore muscles to go with it. I could go on, but won’t. You certainly left your mark sir. I will always smile and have fond memories when I think of all the times he wanted to strangle me because I caused him trouble, but I know he still enjoyed it. Rest In Peace Warren

Warren was so many things, but his passion was always teaching. Gardening, nutrition, natural science, whatever was at hand. He just wanted to share his knowledge, his excitement, his quest for learning and understanding more. I learned a lot about gardening working with Warren.
Warren had a loyal following with his nutrition business, customers considered it an honor to get to talk to him and pick his brain so to speak. If he didn't know the answer, Warren would take the time to research. He will be missed by many.

Warren was only my coach for one season, but man what a season. He instilled in me a lifelong love of barbel training and physical fitness. I have so many memories of that winter. The way he drove the van like an F1 racer. The look on his face when I bought and ate a tube of cookie dough. Following Scott Ross in the van as he skied down the road on that huge hill between Abbot and Bingham on the way back from Sugarloaf in a blizzard. Sparks flying off Cookies edges as he tried to hold a perfect tuck! God speed Warren. You left this world better than how you found it.
