Obituary of Reynold C. Burgess

Please share a memory of Reynold to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Sangerville - Reynold C. Burgess passed away on February 7, 2019 at the age of 90 in Orono after a long illness. Dad was the youngest son of Carroll and Eva (Leland) Burgess and was born in Dover-Foxcroft on September 15, 1928. Dad graduated from Sangerville High School. During his life he was a farmer, worked for Guilford Industries, was a professional logger and co-owned a real estate investment company. In his retirement years he worked part time for a local land surveyor.

Dad is predeceased by his wife, Carol (Clukey) Burgess, his parents and four brothers, Carl, Gordon, Sumner and Merrill. He is survived by six children, Lance Burgess and his partner, Jean Correa, Kathryn McCatherin and her partner, Frank Connolly, Jayne Starbird and her husband, John, Jeffrey Burgess and his wife, Brenda, Barbara Lowe and her husband, Lance, and Charles Burgess. He is also survived by eight grandchildren.

Dad was an avid gardener, both vegetables and flowers, spending many hours around the farm on his tractor. He also enjoyed many fly-fishing trips to Horseshoe Pond with his friends and eating those native brook trout. Summer weekends were spent on picnics with the family going to places that his children could go swimming. Dad took great pride in helping each one of his children with their projects, and as many locals know, he made some very good hard cider.

Dad’s family would like to thank Orono Commons for their compassion and excellent care he received at their facility. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home. Condolences can be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com.
