Barbara was indeed an inspiration to many. I knew here as a devoted wife (to Aubrey) who truly struggled with the difficult decisions required as she became unable to keep him home, and a determined and gracious woman living with the realities of aging. She gave me many tools for my own aging including how to remain engaged and active, and how not to let the small things interfere. We laughed together about the small obstacles and strategized about the bigger ones.
I loved Barbara and I will miss her greatly, as will our community.

Will surely miss seeing Barb's smiling face at all the church and grange suppers. She had such a wonderful sense of humor and loved life. Barb, thanks for letting us into your life.

Barbara was such a lovely lady. Always glad to see people she knew, and I was always surprised to how well she was doing. I remember her well working at Hardwood Products. Always a smile when she would meet you. RIP God has picked a lovely person to come to his home in Heaven.

(Aunt Barb' s written piece to the Sangerville Grange, continued:)
"Now I'm sometimes forgetful, but there again, some of life is just as well forgotten. Sure, over the years my heart has been broken. How can your heart not break when you lose a loved one,or when a child suffers or even when someone loses a beloved pet? But broken hearts are what give us strength and understanding and compassion. A heart never broken is pristine and sterile and will never know the joy of being imperfect. I am blessed to have the youthful laughs etched into deep grooves on my face. Being old has set me free. I am not going to live forever, but while I'm still here, I'm not going to waste my time lamenting over what could have been or worrying about what will be. In spite of Heartwise advice, I shall eat dessert every day if I feel like it. Remember, forget the troubles that come your way, but never forget the blessings that come each day."

Aunt Barb wrote this piece for the Sangerville Grange. I believe it is apropos to all of us who knew and loved her so dearly: " Old age is a gift. I am now probably for the first time in my life, the person I have always wanted to be. Oh no, not my body. I sometimes despair over my body, the wrinkles, the baggy eyes, and the sagging butt. And often I'm taken aback by that old person that lives in my mirror (who looks like my mother), but I don't agonize over these things for long. I've become less critical of myself and just please myself. I care less what other people think. I have seen too many dear friends leave this world too soon, before they understood the great freedom that comes with aging. Whose business is it if I choose to play on the computer until 4 A.M. and sleep until noon? i will dance to those wonderful tunes of the 60's and 70's, and if at the same time, wish to weep over a lost love, I will. I will walk the beach in a swim suit that is stretched over a bulging body, and will dive into the waves with abandon if I choose, despite the pitying glances from the jet set. Barbara was a TRUE friend who never stopped smiling and laughing every time we met. She told us many stories, never repeating one, mentioned everyone of her "family" and friends, plus she told how glad she was that we stopped to visit with her and her neighbors. This loss is huge to everyone she knew and loved but truly Mrs. Wilson will never really leave us all.

My grandmother, Helen Edgerly (aka Nana) and Barbara Wilson were life-long friends. We always loved it when Barbara came to visit because of her infectious friendliness and love of life. I love this picture of them at Nana's 96th birthday party because is shows the love they shared for each other.
Nana passed away this past August, but I'm sure they'll both be up to something interesting now that they're together again. <3

Growing up in the Washburn Clan, Aunt Barb was our "bonus" aunt: my mom's sister's husband's sister, as she loved to explain. I think of Aunt Barb and oodles of smiles come to mind because of all the jokes, most involving my dad: the Northern Comfort, Wooden Cake, and the Cake of Soap were historic. But my best memories happened during my extended visits with my mom in 2006 & 2007 as I was a part of the foursome for dinners and Hand & Foot cards with Aunt Barb, Aunt Tella, and Mom several times each week. Lots of laughter and storytelling. I was blessed.
Aunt Barb will be missed, but the memories will forever comfort all who knew her.

Aunt Barb was my 'adopted' Aunt Barb--she always included all of the nine Washburn children's children as being a niece or nephew to her. We were all so very blessed to have this wonderful woman in our lives. She helped to nurture us and love us along the path to adulthood. Thank you, Aunt Barb, for blessing my life and the lives of many, many others. I know you rest in peace now and are with the loved ones who are there to greet you 'up there.' ~ Ging
