Please share a memory of Charlotte to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

York and Dover-Foxcroft – Charlotte Burgess Sanborn, 90, passed away July 27, 2018, at a Kennebunk assisted living facility.  She was born November 24, 1927, in Oakland, the daughter of Thomas and Abbie (Sargent) Burgess.

She graduated from Foxcroft Academy and worked in the Piscataquis Extension Office for several years before leaving to raise three sons.  She was a Cub Scout den mother for 12 years and taught Sunday School at the Methodist Church in Dover-Foxcroft. She was a charter member and president of the Mocutoc Club, and a member of the Cosmopolitan Club, both in Dover-Foxcroft.  She loved Sebec Lake and enjoyed many wonderful years at her cottage there, later turning the property into a year-round home.

After moving to York in 2000 to be close to family members, she became a member of the International Women’s Club of New England and attended the First Parish Church in York. Her hobbies included gardening, golf, and genealogy.  She also enjoyed the many years she got to spend in her winter home in Fort Myers, FL.

Charlotte was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, John Sanborn, in 2002, and her two sisters, Marion Burgess and Katherine Coy.

She is survived by her three sons, Melbourn of Lehigh Acres, FL; Michael with his wife, Gara, of York; and William with his wife, Patty, of Buxton.  She loved nothing more than to be surrounded by her granddaughter, Katherine, five grandsons, Thomas, John, Derek, Ryan, and Jason, along with their spouses and her four great-grandchildren, Hannah, Lucy, Harry and Sadie.  She is also survived by three nieces, two nephews and many cousins, all of whom were very dear to her.

Friends and family are invited to call from 11:30 until time of funeral service at 12:30pm Wednesday, August 1, 2018, at the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft.  Burial will be in the family lot in Dover Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Pine Tree Society (a Maine charity for Children and Adults with Disabilities), 149 Front Street, Bath, Maine 04530. Condolences and memories may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com.
