Obituary of Austin M. Deane

Guilford- Austin M. Deane, 90, passed away June 7, 2018, at Mayo Regional Hospital, Dover-Foxcroft. He was born January 2, 1928, in Fort Fairfield, the son of Glen and Lena (Perin) Deane. Austin graduated from Guilford High School, Class of 1946. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served prior to attending and graduating from Colby College, Class of 1952.  Austin was a Past Master of the Mt. Kineo Lodge No. 109 and was also involved with Odd Fellows, the Guilford Fire Department, the American Legion and the VFW, along with serving many other civic organizations. He worked for Hardwood Products for 42 years, retiring as Plant Superintendent.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed these activities with his children and grandchildren.  

 

Austin is survived by his wife of 68 years, Diane (Edes) Deane; four children, Bradley and wife, Terry, of Guilford, Peter and wife, Martha of Winslow, Roderick and wife, Michelle, of Freeport, and Nancy Loranger and husband, Francis of Portland; daughter-in-law, Norma Deane of Bend, Oregon; 9 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends.  Austin was predeceased by his son, Robert, and his brothers, Ronald and Albert.

 

A memorial service will be held 2PM Thursday, June 14, 2018, at the Guilford United Methodist Church. Burial with a masonic service and military honors will be in the family lot at Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of visiting hours, friends are invited back to the church at 4PM for refreshments and fellowship.
