Guilford - Mrs. Ruth Barnes, 95, most recently of Guilford,  passed peacefully on Tuesday, May 29, 2018, in Yarmouth..

 

The former Ruth Reynolds was born on April 19, 1923, in Edgerton, Wisconsin.  She married her high school sweetheart, Marvin G. Barnes, on July 23, 1949, in Rockford, IL.

 

A resident of Janesville, WI for 55 years, Ruth was a statistician for the U.S. Navy during WWII and worked for the Veterans Administration after the war in both St Petersburg and Miami. She also worked for Hamlin Jewelry of Beloit, Wisconsin for many years; she once foiled a robbery!

 

Ruth was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter CK, Janesville; Cargill United Methodist Church (Mary Circle) Janesville; Rock County Historical Society, Janesville; Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, Janesville; Rockton Duo Decca, Rockton, IL and the Rock County Republican Party.

 

Ruth was predeceased by an infant son, Craig Reynolds Barnes, her parents, Lester and Mildred Bennett Reynolds, a brother, Howard Reynolds of Florida and her husband, Marvin G. Barnes.

 

Surviving are two sons, Kenton (Susan) and Bradley both of Portland, Oregon and a daughter, Stephanie (John) Cartwright of Guilford, Maine; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

 

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Rock County Historical Society at 426 N. Jackson Street, Janesville, WI  53548, or to the PEO Sisterhood at www.peointernational.org.

 

A memorial will be held at Cargill Methodist Church, Janesville, Wisconsin the end of September. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home. Condolences may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com.
