Many of my teenage years were spent with Dick discussing the outdoors, trapping, and his work for GNP. He was a great storyteller and his stories of work, hunting, trapping, and fishing were factual and at the same time comical. No matter how many times I heard his stories, a little added twist or comment would make them just as interesting as the first time I ever heard them. This past year he went to Rocky Brook Camp with us on two occasions and had a great time even though his hearing and eyesight were getting poor and he was unable to play cribbage. As we were leaving camp last October, he looked at me and said,"The only thing I regret on this trip was not being able to kick your a... in cribbage!" My thoughts are with Mary Ann and family.

Mary Ann, Sue, Skip, Kim, Chris, Leslie, Erick, Brock, Steph, Shannon and the entire extended Bessey Family. My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time. Dick was a very special person and I have fond memories of the times I spent with him: playing cribbage, shooting potato guns, family gatherings and suppers just with him and Mary Ann. He was always kind and welcoming and never judged me even when I went to work for the LURC in order to move to Ashland. He will be missed.

Remembering the times we had together from working with Dick at Great Northern to hunting, fishing and escapades that were both interesting and educational in a way. He was a great teacher and a person I was very proud to call friend. One of a kind and he will be sorely missed.

We are so sorry and sad to hear this news. I remember so much as a little girl, going up North to visit. Dick was such a strong man that I guess I never thought anything would happen to him . I will always cherish the memories. Love you all...Cousin Cindy

Dick will be remembered fondly as a man that "never lost a cribbage game in his life." He has left behind a strong legacy of children and grandchildren that are wonderful people. His love of the outdoors and his friends and family will live on through through those left behind. His grandson Chris Bessey and I will raise a toast at the hunting camp and his "flying O" ice shack in the memory of this great man. You will be missed Dick! Rest in Peace.
