Obituary of Mattie Ames Merchant

Guilford- Mattie Ames Merchant, 88, passed away December 17, 2017, at her home. She was born December 17, 1929, in Dover-Foxcroft, the daughter of George E. and Ruth H. (Rowe) Ames.  Mattie worked for many years making shoes.

She is survived by her two daughters, Jean Gray and her husband, Fred, and Colleene “Norma” Rees and her husband, Mark; three grandchildren, Carol Gray, Michael Gray, and Valerie Berrios; many great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ida Page and Roseland Stevens; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Norman Merchant; son, Wesley Sylvester; grandchildren, Eric and Coralien; and two brothers, George Ames, Jr. and Cecil Ames.

Burial will be in the spring, next to her husband, Norman, in the family lot at Lawn Cemetery, Guilford.  Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home. Messages of condolence may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com.
