I will miss John’s friendly presence in church, and I will remember him each fall when the leaves turn color. The sugar maples on John’s front lawn are among the most beautiful in town. John always let me collect leaves to press for seasonal decorations, and we often shared some pleasant conversation when I came to get them. On one visit, he invited me in and showed me his finely crafted Black Ash baskets. They are works of art and a legacy that will be enjoyed by many people. His passing is truly a loss to our community.

I met John in Mason Lodge in Greenville and soon knew I had another fine brother. Enjoyed visits with John at Lodge and seeing him from time to time around Town. I was on patrol one day and John was mowing his lawn. I stopped and told him John they passed a new ordinance last night at town meeting. He says now what. Well I got to write you a ticket. Sure you do. I said yes. What for ? Blowing your lawn onto the street and your driveway. You know what you can do with your Ticket. It was just the way he said it that made my day. That was John Webber. Thank you for being my friend John and brother. The Lord eats well for sure and his Basket will be full of your Biscuits. May God Bless John Webber.

John and I grew up together on Lincoln Street in Greenville. We would walk to school and pick up Denny and Edmund at the bottom of Lincoln Street. Denny, John and I climbed Squaw Mountain in the summer of 1956. I still have the picture of the three of us standing in front of John's house. My wife and I enjoyed seeing the beautiful baskets that John created in his pleasant home on Pritham Avenue. I will miss you my dear friend. Our sincere condolences to his family and friends.

I always listened when John talked, because he spoke wise volumes with a few words. His wit made me laugh and his determined strength and endurance inspired me. He held down the back pew of the sanctuary at Union Church over the last two years, as one by one his friends passed over, never wavering in his faith. The next to last time he was in church, I spontaneously and led by the Spirit, reached over and took his hand as we sang a very meaningful song at the end of the service-"Go Now in Peace". There was a whole row of us holding hands and at that point, I did not know of his diagnosis.
He had tears in his eyes as we finished and he squeezed my hand. I will remember that moment forever, as I now know how much it meant to him. We all have lost a dear friend. Our sympathies to his family.
