Brownville- Robert Eugene “Bob” Hamlin, 93, passed away at EMMC in Bangor on March 31, 2016, after a brief illness. Bob was born April 5, 1922 the middle of three sons of Oscar and Pearl Morrill Hamlin. He graduated from Milo High School and joined the US Army in 1938 where he was trained as an aircraft mechanic. Initially stationed in Panama, he was later transferred to Dyersburg, TN, where he met and married the love of his life, and spouse of 73 years, Nell Inlow. Bob served through the remainder of WWII with the 8th Air Force in England, rising to the rank of staff sergeant, as an airframe mechanic instructor. Returning to Milo after the war Bob was employed with the Dowlin Lumber Company. In 1955 the family moved to Millinocket where Bob worked in the Woodlands Division of the Great Northern Paper Company in Millinocket. Bob was predeceased by his parents, and brothers, Carl and George. He is survived by his wife Nell Hamlin; daughter, Janice and husband, George Barton; son, Brian and wife, Jeanne Treworgy Hamlin; grandchildren, Kim, Casey, Tucker, Darcy, Erin, Sarah, Tom; 18 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who were very special to him, also. After moving to Brownville in 1969, Bob served as a selectman, a member of the budget advisory committee for Piscataquis County, a member of Post 41 American Legion in Milo and the Masonic Lodge, Piscataquis #44 of Milo. Serving as deacon emeritus and member of the social committee, Bob was an active member of Brownville Community Church. He was an active participant in the church’s homecoming festivities, serving as their auctioneer for several years. He enjoyed several camps during his lifetime including those at The Rips, South Twin, and Sebec. An outdoorsman, he loved hunting, fishing and snowmobiling, and spent many hours grooming trails. Never one to sit still he loved to lend a hand, brainstorm ideas, or help "supervise". He enjoyed sharing his sense of humor and never knew a stranger after telling his notorious “Three Bears” story with the surprise ending. He was a man of extraordinary generosity, infinite humor, a mechanical genius and a dickerer without peer. Bob loved his family and friends, enjoyed family gatherings, days on the lake, building projects, and travel to familiar and new places with those he loved. He will be missed. Memorial services will be held at the Brownville Community Church on Tuesday April 5, 2016, at 1:00pm with Rev. Ann Purdy officiating.
