Obituary of Victoria Ann Troy

Please share a memory of Victoria to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Guilford- Victoria Ann Troy, beloved daughter of Milton and Barbara Troy of Guilford, passed away from complications of Cerebral Palsy, on March 24, 2016 at Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft. She was born on March 16,1944 on the birthday of her Grandfather Harold Troy of Guilford. She was born with Cerebral Palsy but she never let her handicap hold her back. She told many people about her experiences at Pine Tree Camp in Rome. It was an opportunity to learn skills that gave her independence. Vicki was proud to be a councilor the last few years she went to camp. When Vicki started public school, there were limited resources for kids with special needs. Vicki had a strong support system and work ethic. She was proud to graduate from Piscataquis Community High School in the class of 1964. Vicki was a faithful follower of P.C.H.S. Pirate sports; wearing her school jacket proudly even as a senior citizen. Attending the 50th Class reunion was a highlight of her life. Many thanks to the special people who made her attendance possible. Shortly after graduation from high school, Vicki participated in an experimental brain surgery at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine in an attempt to cure her tremors. Although the surgery did not relieve her symptoms of Cerebral Palsy, she never regretted going through the surgery and the extended time at the hospital. Vicki spent much of her time volunteering. She enjoyed many years as a volunteer for Girl Scouts of America in Piscataquis County, and the Guilford Memorial Library. Reverend Sydney Buzzell, of the Guilford United Methodist Church, heard about Vicki's work at the Guilford Memorial Library and thought Vicki might like to donate her time organizing the church library. Vicki accepted the challenge from Reverend Buzzell and later on suggested the Guilford United Methodist Church Library be dedicated to Reverend Sydney Buzzell. Vicki kept active for most of her life. Guilford was her town and she walked everywhere selling items like Christmas cards to earn a little money, and going to the restaurants for lunch. When walking became too much for Vicki, she bought herself a 3 wheel bicycle and peddled any place she needed to go. In 2003 Vicki moved to Pleasant Meadows Estates in Dover-Foxcroft where she has been a happy resident. The staff and residents have been her extended family whom she loved and appreciated. Her greatest desire was to get out of the hospital and get back to her home. Vicki is survived by her brothers, Matthew W. Troy of Westminster CO, Martin J Troy and his wife Cynthia Troy of Waterville, her nephew Ryan Troy and great niece Miranda Troy of Benton, great niece Mykenzie Veilleux of Waterville, niece Laura K. Troy and her husband Ross Whitaker of Annandale, VA. The family invites you to attend a Mass of Christian Burial which will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2016, at 10:00 AM at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Dover-Foxcroft. A light lunch will be served by the Bereavement Club of St. Thomas Aquinas Church. In lieu of flowers Vicki asked that contributions be made to The Pine Tree Society, PO Box 518, Bath, ME 04530-0518. Arrangements are in the care of Lary Funeral Home, Guilford. Memories and condolences may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com.
