Obituary of Harding Best Hibbard

Guilford- Harding Best Hibbard, 96, died March 24, 2017, in Dover-Foxcroft. He was born February 23, 1921, in Perry, Maine, the son of Jesse and Margaret (Morse) Hibbard. Harding attended Guilford High School before he served in the U.S. Army in the Infantry Wildcat Division in World War II. After the war he returned to Guilford and was employed by Hardwood Products before eventually opening a partnership business called Johnston and Hibbard’s Garage providing school bus service to the Guilford School District for many years. Harding was a state fire instructor and a member of the Guilford Fire Department for many years. He always enjoyed his summer vacations in Greenville with family and all of his visits from special friends and neighbors that stopped by to brighten his day. Harding is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Virginia (Winchester) Hibbard; his four children, Everett and companion, Meredith of Ripley, Catherine Davis of Enfield, NH, Deborah Sawyer and husband, Richard of Dexter, and Robert of Fairport, NY; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Lewis, and his long-time close friend and neighbor, Linwood Flanders. A graveside funeral service with military honors will be held in the Lawn Cemetery, Guilford, in the spring. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home.
