Sending love and deepest sympathy to all of the Grant and Washburn Family - We were so sad to learn of your Mom, Gram, and Aunt's passing. We had the pleasure of spending a bit of time with her just a little over two weeks ago at the Community Dinner at the Congregational Church. We had no idea that she wasn't well and that would be the last time we would see her. She was such a great lady - so fun to be around - always a smile for everyone she met - and often words of wisdom to make you chuckle! We won't be able to be at the services tomorrow, and for that we feel very sorry and unhappy. Please know that we are holding you all in our hearts and prayers especially during this very sad time. You are fortunate to have a large loving family - draw strength from each other and those precious memories that have been made over the years. Thinking of you all with much love and deepest sympathy! Barb & Bob

The last time I saw Jane, we were at the entrance of the local grocery store. When I inquired
about her life and health, she proudly announced (with a twinkle in her eyes) that she was
President of the Here After Club. I looked puzzled because I had never heard of that club. She
quickly explained that whenever she would go to the grocery store, she didn't remember what
she was here after! Now Jane is in Heaven and probably will become President of a different
and everlasting "Here After Club'" She was loved by many. How fortunate for the Grant
children to have had such wonderful parents. John & Rachel Pingree

My thoughts have been with Jane's immediate and extended family this week. It is obvious that "extended" also takes in those who's life that she has made a difference in. Even though that was an easy thing for her to do, it is heartwarming to see how it stays with you for a lifetime.
Enjoy those special memories. Love to all,
Martha

To the Grant Family:
Jane was always supportive of the schools and also helped to keep us in business with 8 boys and 1 girl. I will never forget her instructions to me as a teacher/principal! " If my kids act out, just keep them after school and let them walk home!" I believe the Board Eddy Road, where they lived, was several miles! Jane was an excellent employee when she worked for SAD #68 - and one always got a direct and sincere answer from her - no matter who she would be talking to! I was on the "receiving end" more than once - but I always appreciated her for that! Jane and Herb raised a great family and must have set the all-time record for grand-children, great grands and even great-great grands! She lived a great life and made an impact on many more! Rest in Peace, Jane!

I'm very sorry to hear about the loss of your mother but after reading her obituary I could see she had a very full and rich life. I remember meeting her on one of your "move in" days at BES. Your parents were so sweet and they looked so proud of you. My deepest sympathy.

We are very sad to hear of the passing of our wonderful Aunt Jane. I know that she has now seen the face of God and has also been embraced by Uncle Herb and all of the others who have gone before her.
I remember how proud Aunt Jane was to be the wife of Uncle Herb and so proud to be the mother to her 9 wonderful children and their families and so proud to be part of the wonderful Washburn and Grant families. She was loved by many and will be missed by all.
Love to my Grant cousins and their families.

To all of the Grant family - Jane was an absolute one of a kind. On so many occasions she brought joy to my life. We were "church-going" friends and I admired her unshakable positive outlook, her commitment to her faith, and her undying love and loyalty to her family - not to mention her ability to keep all of you straight! Life at the Congregational Church will be a little less bright and a little more empty after her passing. How lucky you all were to have such a wonderful and caring woman in your lives. My sincere sympathy for your loss. Your consolation is the wealth of happy memories of a life well-lived and the gift of unconditional love she modeled for you - and us all. Thank you for sharing.

Since grad school, when I delivered milk to her classroom, Mrs. Grant has been a good friend. She was always full of laughs, caring plus at the same time was treated with respect. I have stayed in touch with Mrs. Grant for many years and believe me I never got bored...weather in the school, at football games, her playing cards with friends(which I called gambling), or we met at suppers she always made people smile. Sorry to all of her family and friends as I know how she will be missed.

To the Grant Family,
I know a big hole has been left in your hearts (as it has in mine), but your Mom would be able to make you laugh! How lucky am I to consider you all an extension of my own family - until you had Julie I thought of myself as your sister! Your parents have left you all fine adults prepared to lead rewarding lives. Everyone will miss Jane. Dover-Foxcroft has lost one of its finest citizens.
My thoughts and prayers are with each of you.

I am shocked and saddened to learn of Jane's passing.
We were in an exercise class together at the YMCA and I always enjoyed seeing her. She was a lot of fun to be around and full of energy for a 91 year old!
She will be missed by all of us at the Y.
So sorry to hear this news.
She was a sweet lady.

One of the images I have of Aunt Jane is that of a beautiful mother hen who is always there to gather her chicks under her gentle wings. She had nine of her own chicks. In fact, from the mid 1940's until the end of the 50's I don't think there was a photo of her that she didn't appear pregnant! And as all of us nieces and nephews arrived on the scene, she was a momma hen to us cousins whenever we needed her. When we were kids she enveloped us with her love and her love simply grew as we grew. When we would arrive on a summer's day at the farm she was there with hugs and kisses and always something homemade and home-grown to eat.
Another image I have of Aunt Jane is that of a spark plug! She always had creative ideas and the energy to make them happen. She and Uncle Herb drew us together as a family by having hootenannies in the barn, giving all of us wonderful memories. It was Aunt Jane who was always there to help organize family reunions! Most of us still have our Washburn Reunion T-shirts and our reunion coffee mugs.
I also have an image of Aunt Jane as a bit of a card shark. Just give her a deck of cards and a few friends around the table and watch her deal and play her hand. If things were quiet at the lake, she would be the first to announce that a game of 'hand & foot' was about to begin. We would sit around the table and she would tell the funniest stories. I think she was the best joke teller that there ever was! She also wrote the grandest poems and shared them with us.
And who can forget the image of Aunt Jane as one of the youngest little sisters in the family. She always kept tabs on all her siblings, staying connected with them through phone calls, letters and funny recycled birthday cards that made the rounds every year and made us laugh. She was there for her parents when they needed help in their latter years. And as her older brother and sisters were no longer able to take care of themselves, she was always there for them. Not that long ago, when my own mother was in an assisted living home, she and Aunt Tella, driven by Judy and Julie, drove all the way to New York just to make a short visit with Mabel.
The most treasured image I have of Aunt Jane is that of an angel. Last summer I was going through a sad and tough time. I was not even aware that Aunt Jane knew what was happening. It was on a Sunday morning in Dover-Foxcroft. I was sitting in church with Aunt Barb and we were about to sing the final hymn. I happened to look towards the front of the church, just past the minister, and there was my Aunt Jane peeking through the partially open church kitchen door, looking for me. My heart melted in that moment. She had come from her own church service to be with me and to let me know she cared, that she was there for me. And she brought some of our family with her: Julie, Carl, Jackie, Aunt KK and Uncle Ozzie. I have never felt so very, very loved and supported.
Aunt Jane's greatest gift to me and to all of us is the profound gift of love and understanding that she so freely gave. We have all become better persons by knowing her and being blessed to have her in our lives. She will always live in our hearts.
Love, Connie
