Obituary of Lawrence "Larry" M. Homer

Sebec – Lawrence M. Homer, 88, passed away peacefully January 7, 2025, at his home. He was born November 21, 1936, in Oakdale, Pennsylvania, the son of Stephen M. and Ruth (Scheuneman) Homer. Larry very proudly served the United States Coast Guard and was stationed on an icebreaker in the Arctic Ocean. After his time in the service, he attended Waynesburg College and received his bachelors’ degree in Geology. In 1964, he married the love of his life, Sandra Christensen, and by 1965, they moved to Maine. Larry worked for over 20 years as a teacher in Milo, Brownville, and Atkinson before his retirement. Following his retirement from teaching, he went back to work for 10 years at Pride Manufacturing where he enjoyed his years running the dry kilns. At home, Larry and Sandra appreciated the opportunity to run a small farm and raising their family with an old fashioned family lifestyle. He was passionate about hunting and racing sled dogs. He and Sandra ran Alaskan Huskies and enjoyed several trips to Alaska. Larry and Sandra also spent many days and loved spending time on their 30 foot Hunter Sloop sailboat sailing all over the Penobscot Bay. Larry accepted the Lord as his savior and was baptized later in life and it was his wish was that all his family and friends would know Jesus as their savior Larry is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Sandra; three sons, Keith Homer, Clint Homer and his wife, Erin, and Neal Homer and his wife, Crystal; daughter, Kathryn Grant and her significant other, Anthony Chambrello; sister, Linda Lawson; and six grandchildren, Olivia, Elyse, Cooper, Paden, Karsten, and Andie. He was predeceased by his parents, and brother, Stephen. A memorial service with military honors will be held 11AM Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the Garland Community Baptist Church, with Pastor Scott Millett officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Garland Community Baptist Church, 24 Oliver Hill Road, Garland, ME 04939. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home.
