Bless you David. In our combined 120 plus years of music appreciation countless artists come to mind. But Dave holds a very special place in that long and varied lineup. Visits to our home in Washington County were not complete without opening the windows, sitting in the front yard swing and playing any of many Dave Mallett CDs. The seals appreciated it too. Same could be said for our quarter century in Waldo County. Feel so fortunate to have seen him in concert so many times in places ranging from Waldoboro to Mount Vernon, Ellsworth to Bangor and Brewer--always keeping an eye out for their (Dave, Michael, Susan, Rob, Roy, et al.) next appearance which, sadly, will never be in person but their music lives on--that road goes on forever. Mallett family and friends so sorry for your loss.

Richard and I saw David summer before last at Crow's Feat--- it was great outdoors on a sunny day--- the perfect setting for his wonderful music. We spoke briefly; I said how much I enjoyed The Fable True spoken piece. I had the Garden Song on vinyl from when it first came out. Thank you, David.

It sure is going to be different driving down North Road and not seeing Dave wave that unique hand-up-in-the-air greeting. RIP Dave. Condolences to the family.

I was introduced to David in 1980 when I moved to NH. He performed regularly back then at The Folkways in Peterborough. My daughter and I fell in love with his music, I still play his cds regularly and booked the recent concert in New London NH which was cancelled due to his illness. I can’t express how saddened I am to hear of his passing. His music has followed me throughout the country and helped me through some very tough times. I always said he was more of a poet than anything. He will be so very missed. My sincerest condolences to this dear soul’s family and friends. We’ll see you on the other side Davey.

David was a regular visitor to Westhoughton Folk Club, in North West England, which ran from 1975 until 2007, we all loved his performances, recognised his great talent and he always played to a packed and enthusiastic house.
Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.

Jayne and family: Love to all. Nice seeing you at the cafe across the street after a Rockland concert. Dessert for us, probably supper for you and Dave. Always enjoyed catch ups in the aisle of Judkin’s and Will’s Shop ‘n Save with Dave, when we came into town with family for stays at camp at the lake. Remembered taking our oldest when he was 3yr to NH to one of Dave’s concerts outside an old Inn Resort. Loved an Ogunquit small venue concert. Dave’s songs and lyric artistry such a joy and legacy to all. So glad we connected through messages this past Spring and this past July. Another throwback:Loved the practices at Central Hall with Dave and brother Neil and 3 of us gals to get ready for a hootenanny at the FA school assembly in the gym in ‘65. Oh, his derp love for you, his children and spouses, family and especially the grandkids, he said of them in July to me”one of my greatest treasures and pleasures of all” my grandkids, he added “doesn’t get any better than that!” Big Bear Pond Turner Hugs and prayers from Larry & Nancy Pullen
the love of his life and greatest treasure and pleasured

I am crushed about David's passing. I met him in 1977 in August, it was at the wedding of Don Parker in Bradford, the town where I lived which is near Sebec. The service was nice and when finished there was outdoor entertainment.
It was David; playing outside along side the Parker's Lumber Mill business.. And for some reason later on when we'd refer to that he liked to call them the "Porkers" ???
This wedding was the first outing for my three week old daughter, when Dave took a break, we spoke a bit and he said hello to my new daughter, hugged her and then back to singing.
I have David's original first 4 albums, all are wonderful, such a Storyteller, from his heart and life's experiences. A Poet.
Three years later I found myself teaching H.S. in E. Corinth, ME I approached the Principal and ask if we could have an assembly day, he agreed. I contacted David and he along with Mike Burd, there they were on stage in the gym. He played for an hour. He said it was great to do such a gig. Each time we crossed paths thereafter we'd reminisce about the event.
Years later I moved to Charleston, SC and wrote David about performing here, I hadfound an suitable venue, etc. and told David, he said call my Booking Agent as he always wanted to see Charleston. There is a large cadre of Mainahs around here, we meet twice a year for picnics, I approached them to test enthusiasm about David coming here a few years back. Some knew of David, other not, yet all were enthused at the prospect. He replied that he was slowing down "these days" and now was gigging in mostly in Maine.
Before this thought shortly after getting set in Charleston my wife and I went to Savannah, GA to see him play for the Folk Song Festival there, it was the time he had just after he recorded his "the MaineWood"s D. of Thoreau's famous time in the Maine Woods. Of course I purchased the C.D. and after the show my wife and I spoke privately with him and he said Thoreau was his "Main Man". Mine too. I've played that album 100's of times.
I've had Aunts/Uncles pass, friends pass too and have been very saddened. Yet my feelings that have been pouring forward upon David's passing through me have been unexpected and I have teared up several times
His work touched my soul, affected me emotionally.
I last wrote him a few weeks ago about a tragic accident on the Milo Road this past spring, knowing he knew the victims as did I... uncharacteristically, he didn't answer and it made me wonder, Now I think I know why. I will miss his song stories, is Poetry sooo much. I have had many experiences akin to what he's written, I just couldn't put them to song. Once on Dave's FB page he was pictured on his Ford Tractor, grey w/ red trim from the 40's, I asked him, a Ford 8n or 9n. He said 9n and to come see when him/it I get back to Maine. I never was able to make the trip.
Due to potential health concerns with long travel times I just can't make the trek to say goodbye personally to his family, I so wish I could.
David was bigger than life in my eyes, his music paints pictures. So evocative.
He's gone, his music will last for ages. Good bye David.

Every spring, as I ready my gardens, I sing "The Garden Song" and thank Dave Mallett for one of the greatest songs ever. I would guess it was meant as a gardener's song, but (as a family therapist) I always heard it as a song about life, how we live it, how we raise our children and grandchildren, how we understand that we are all on a journey that unfolds one inch at a time. I was an early fan of Dave's and am still all these years later. To his family---Jayne, Luke, Will, Molly and others---I send my best appreciation for sharing him with us for all these years. May his spirit soar ever onward!
