Obituary of Ben Alan Nye

Greenville - Ben Alan Nye passed away peacefully on Friday, October 18, 2024 in Greenville. He was born to Murray "Bill" and Mary Nye on March 4, 1952. He was raised at Pittston Farm until school age at which time the family moved to Shirley Mills. Ben graduated from Greenville High School in 1971. He enlisted in the Army and served in the 249th ENG Battalion from 1971-1974 stationed at West Point and Germany. He was a member of the American Legion Post 94 for 35 years. He was a patriot and loved his country. He worked in the logging industry starting at Great Northern Paper Co. He then worked for private landowners. He also worked many years at Evergreen Estates and as a heavy equipment operator. Ben lived large and his life was touched by many special friends along the way. He spent many enjoyable hours riding his Harley motorcycle and snowmobiling. In his later years, he battled with health obstacles and overcame substance use disorder. He took it all in stride with his sense of humor and with the support of his family and friends. He got busy and became a quilter, a trait he inherited from his grandmother, Lucille Nye. He made many lap quilts which he donated to those in need. He is survived by his sister, Loretta Grinnell of Milo; a brother, Bill, his wife, Carolyn of Shirley; and his sister, Mary of Greenville; his children, Richard, Christy, Nikki and Kerrie; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and a nephew. He was predeceased by his parents, Murray and Mary Nye; his aunt, Ruth; and uncle, Ray Rosado A celebration of life will be held at Shirley Community Church, West Road, Shirley, ME on November 9 at 2 PM with military honors.
