Obituary of Byron Donn Saunders

Dover-Foxcroft- Byron Donn Saunders, passed away October 12, 2024 at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. He was born March 24, 1943 in Gloucester, Massachusetts, the son of Harrison D. and Phyllis (Lowell) Saunders. Byron moved to Sebec, Maine when he was two, one of nine children, where he was raised and worked on a farm. At the age of 18 he worked in local factories; he loved work that involved cutting wood. He enjoyed being an automobile mechanic for 43 years and driving school bus for 14 years. He also enjoyed cooking, gardening, and raising house plants. His passion was hunting and fishing with his friend, Ernie King, and his three sons, Ernie Jr., Tony, and Trampus, where a happy story could always be heard. Byron is survived by his wife, Crystal (Tripp) Saunders; four children, Donnie Tibbetts of Ripley, Terry Saunders of Guilford, Tammy Philbrook of Monson, Nicole Weber of North, Port, Florida; stepson, Lorenzo Vicente of Valrico, Florida; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 9 step grandchildren; and 4 step great-grandchildren. Byron is also survived by one brother, Bernard, of Skowhegan; two sisters, Irene Pegues of Lindale, Texas, and Sharon Crockett of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Also, special friends, Carolyn and Steve Chambers. He was predeceased by four brothers, Merle Boober, Harry, Paul and Gene Saunders; one sister, Betty Ames; two daughters, Lisa Saunders and Melissa Cookson; son, Dean Munson; three stepsons, Michael, James and Norman Curtis; one great-granddaughter, Allayna Brooks. Graveside services will be per his last wish, in the spring. Burial will be at the family lot at the Dover Cemetery in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home.
