Obituary of Ethel L. Hersey

Dover-Foxcroft - Ethel L. Hersey, 93, wife of the late Harold T. Hersey, passed over in the presence of her loving family on December 19, 2016, after a brief illness. She was born on December 13, 1923, the daughter of Linwood and Helen (Emerson) Priest. Ethel was the heart and soul of her family. She chose to spend her life providing a wonderful and loving home for her husband and children and filled their lives with love and laughter, always putting others needs ahead of her own. She took great pleasure in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ethel loved to help others and volunteered at Mayo Regional Hospital for 38 years, accumulating over eleven thousand hours of volunteer service. She was very active with the American Legion Auxiliary and loved playing Bingo every Thursday evening. Ethel drew much strength from her church family and looked forward to attending the Congregational Church as often as she possibly could. Ethel is survived by a daughter, Pamela Uhde and her husband, Robert, of Tucson, Arizona; two sons, Gerald and his wife, Lynn, of Okeechobee, Florida and Dennis of Dover-Foxcroft; four grandchildren, Derek Hersey and his wife, Kristin, of Lakeview Plantation, Rachel Hersey and her companion, Lenny Coover, of Brownville, Debra Ireland of Bangor, and Kelly Farnsworth and her husband, Josh, of Tucson, Arizona; thirteen great-grandchildren; and two very special and dear friends, Pat Voter and Kathleen Allen. A memorial service celebrating Ethel’s life will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at the Dover-Foxcroft Congregational Church, with the Rev. Chad Poland officiating. In lieu of flowers those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Dover-Foxcroft Congregational Church, PO Box 328, Dover-Foxcroft 04426. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home.
