Obituary of Carol A. (Cunningham) Alfonso

Sangerville, ME – Carol A. (Cunningham) Alfonso passed away June 22, 2024, at her residence. She was born September 10, 1943, to Alice and Fred “Ted” Cunningham. Carol had a twinkle in her eye and loved to tease and have fun with family and friends. She went on many trips and adventures with her family. At home she would enjoy a good crossword or Sudoku puzzle. Her greatest joy was when family and friends came to visit, and her time spent with them. She loved babies. Watching them play, grow, and explore, always would put a smile on her face. Early on Mom worked at Northeast Bank in Bangor. She was a messenger and walked all over downtown Bangor to take documents to different locations for signatures. In 1976, the great Bangor Flood happened. Mom would often tell of walking home with the water right at her heels as she walked up the hill towards home. After returning to her hometown of Guilford she worked at Guilford Industries and retired from Hardwood Products. She was a member of the Carpo Club and upon her return to Guilford was a member of the Abaris Club, holding the office of Treasurer for a few years. She also volunteered to help with fundraising for Womancare (now Partners for Peace) and was a member of the steering committee for several years. Carol is survived by daughters Theresa Tilton and husband, Steve, and Angela Alfonso and partner, Rodney Ramsdell; her grandchildren, Kimberly Tilton, Stephen Tilton and partner, Kelsee Steele, Macee Pearl and partner, Matt Hobson; great-granddaughter, Harper Tilton; sister, Rae Draper; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; brother, Fred Cunningham; sister, Rosalie Mitchell; brothers-in-law, Harold “Jimmy” Mitchell and Steve Draper. Mom loved the girl’s trip to Portland each spring and fall. She loved shopping for Christmas, and she loved children. For this reason, in lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in her memory to Theresa Tilton, P.O. Box 218, Sangerville, ME 04479. Donations will be used this fall to purchase Christmas presents for children in need. The family would like to thank the staff at Pleasant Meadows for taking care of Mom. A graveside service will be held 10AM Friday, June 28, 2024, at the family lot in Lawn Cemetery, Guilford. Messages of condolence and memories may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com
