Obituary of Howard Malcolm "Burdock" Stanhope

Greenville - Howard Malcolm “Burdock” Stanhope, passed away on December 6, 2023, in Jacksonville, FL. He was born on July 13, 1940, to Howard and Thelma Stanhope of Greenville. Malcolm graduated from Greenville high school in 1958. He served as a deacon at the Union Church and was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge. He was a self-employed truck driver, hauling logs, petroleum products, and the US mail. Malcolm was a sweet, gentle, loving and generous man. He and his wife, Janet, thoroughly enjoyed spending time with their children and grandchildren, especially at Wilson Pond. They enjoyed several trips to Hawaii and spending winters in Florida with their daughter Jana. He enjoyed country music, playing the guitar, banjo and was a talented piano player. Malcolm is survived by his high school sweetheart, and wife of 64 years, Janet Ward Stanhope; two daughters, Karen Ryder and Allan of Lancaster, NH, and Jana Stanhope of Jacksonville, FL; three grandchildren, Katelyn Ryder and fiancé, Robbie Curtis, of Stark, NH, Nicolas Ryder and girlfriend, Erin Walsh, of Greenville, and Howard Stanhope III of Island Falls, ME; one great-grandchild, Malcolm Allan Curtis of Stark, NH; one brother-in-law, Dale Ward and his wife, Brenda, of Greenville. He was predeceased by his son, Howie Stanhope; sister, Joyce Carr; and brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Joyce Owens. A celebration of life to honor Malcolm will be held 2PM Saturday, June 1, 2024, at the Lary Funeral Home Greenville Chapel located in the Masonic Lodge, 281 Pritham Avenue, Greenville. A luncheon will follow at the Masonic Lodge. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Columbia Doric Masonic Lodge PO Box 751, Greenville, ME.
